Who sits in a glass house … The Borderlands film disappoints on all levels and the infamous director Uwe Boll can’t resist a side blow

For Eli Roth’s Borderlands film, things are … not going so well. The cinema adaptation of the popular shooter series looks back on a turbulent production history that is taking on increasingly disastrous proportions:First torn apart by the press, Borderlands is now also makingshockingly little money

The film is currently heading for a flop of terrifying proportions, while the theatrical release in Germany on August 22, 2024 is still to come. It’s not just critics and disappointed fans who are lashing out at Borderlands, howevernow Uwe Boll is too.

Uwe Boll is now also stepping up to Borderlands

The German director is responsible for a whole range of legendarily bad video game adaptations: for exampleAlone in the Dark,House of the Dead,Postal,Far CryorBloodrayne. Nevertheless, Boll doesn’t miss the opportunity to publicly lash out against Borderlands

OnX(formerly Twitter) the filmmaker posted a screenshot of an IGN report focusing on Borderlands’ meagre box office takings. Boll writes:

Ha ha. My movies have made more money with a hard R-rating. Now you wish I had directed it.

Boll is of course alluding to the fact that the Borderlands games do not actually hold back when it comes to depicting explicit violence. But despite horror director Eli Roth, the film adaptation in the USA has a family-friendly PG rating, which explains a certain lack of blood and guts

However, it can be questioned in good conscience whether Boll is actually right with his assertion. In the comments, X-Userstopskeletonshas already compared the official figures for Boll’s films, which paint a different picture: The director’s most lucrative film House of the Dead, for example, comes to a total of 13.8 million US dollars (viaBox Office Mojo).

Boll counters this by claiming that his filmshave been illegally downloaded and pirateda total of 41 billion times (yes, billions). Well, a bold statement that cannot be verified

Borderlands will be released in cinemas on August 22, 2024, while the film by director Eli Roth has already been released in the USA. It remains to be seen how much money the film, which costs more than 100 million US dollars, will ultimately bring in. But things are not looking too rosy at the moment
