Rumours suggest that the 4060 Ti will now also be launched with 16GB VRAM. However, the 16GB version will appear with a delay of a few months

Update, May 16, 2023: The suspected version of the soon-to-be-released RTX 4060 Ti with 16.0 instead of 8.0GB of VRAM is becoming more concrete. As (Videocardz) has now learned, Nvidia is relying on a new GPU with a minimally higher TDP.
Instead of 160 watts, it will be 165 watts, and the AD106-351 GPU will be used instead of the AD106-350. The 16.0 GB VRAM configuration also ensures that the RTX 4060 Ti clearly outperforms the faster RTX 4070 and RTX 4070 Ti models with 12.0 GB VRAM. This was also already the case with the RTX 3060, which was ahead of the RTX 3070 (Ti) with 12.0 GBytes of VRAM.

While the release of the RTX 4060 Ti with 8.0 GByte VRAM is scheduled for the end of May, the model with 16.0 GByte will not be ready until the second half of July, according to Videocardz. The RTX 4060 without Ti add-on should also be released then.

Original article, 09 May 2023: The RTX 4060 Ti is expected to be released this month, if rumours are to be believed. However, Nvidia has not officially announced the 4060 Ti yet. Nevertheless, the graphics card has already caused quite a stir on the net. The reason: The 4060 Ti is supposed to be released with only 8.0 GByte VRAM.

Current rumours now say that it will not remain with only one version with this amount of memory.

8 GB VRAM is no longer adequate for many new games

A feature set of 8.0GB of VRAM was the standard in the lower end of Nvidia”s 30 generation. Both the RTX 3060 Ti and the RTX 3050 appeared with 8.0 GByte VRAM. There is also a variant of the RTX 3060 with this amount of RAM. However, graphics cards with this amount of VRAM are reaching their limits in more and more new games.

This is due, among other things, to the ever-increasing textures of video games that fill the VRAM. In addition, there are techniques such as ray tracing, which also want their share of VRAM. In the mid-range segment, both AMD and Nvidia are releasing graphics cards with 8.0 GByte VRAM.

Version with 16.0 GByte VRAM to come

It looks like the 8.0 GB VRAM won”t last after all. According to Twitter users (MEGAsizeGPU), Nvidia will release an RTX 4060 Ti with 16.0 GB VRAM in July. However, this version would then also have more VRAM than the RTX 4070 and RTX 4070 Ti and the same amount of VRAM as the RTX 4080.

Whether the reaction on the net was the reason or whether Nvidia planned a version with 16.0 GByte VRAM from the beginning is hard to say. With this, Nvidia would at least outdo the RX 7600, which AMD is sending into the race as a competitor to the RTX 4060 Ti with 8.0 GBytes of VRAM – albeit presumably at a lower price.

What do you think of the rumours regarding a 4060 Ti with 16 GB VRAM? Realistic or will Nvidia stick with the 8GB VRAM variant? In your eyes, is it still worth buying a graphics card with 8 GB VRAM or should newly purchased graphics cards come with more graphics memory? Feel free to write us your opinion in the comments.
