Nvidia is apparently planning three new graphics cards at once – breaking with previous conventions

The upper mid-range of Nvidia’s current cards could get an upgrade. Because according to a leak, super models are being planned. One thing is quite new here.

It will probably take more than a year until the first RTX 5000 generation graphics cards are released. An RTX 4090 Ti doesn’t seem to be planned anymore, either. And except for the small RTX 4050, all base models for the desktop are already taken.

However, those who think that Nvidia does not have any more cards in the pipeline are wrong. According to a recent leak, they are working on three graphics cards for the upper mid-range.

A special feature: One of the cards is supposed to go new ways in naming.

Nvidia: Super upgrades for RTX 4080 and 4070 (Ti)

What happened: The leaker (@hongxing2020 has commented on X (formerly Twitter) about three new cards from Nvidia. According to this, the 4080 Super, 4070 Ti Super and 4070 Super models are said to be in the manufacturer’s planning stage.

However, he does not want to commit to a release date – presumably because this has not yet been set at Nvidia either.

@hongxing2020 has had a solid hit rate with his previous leaks, but he has also been wrong before. For example, he expected models from the RTX 3000 Super series, which never appeared. Nevertheless, his claims should not be completely disregarded.

Why is that important? With the graphics cards, Nvidia would offer gamers new options to find the right card for them when building a PC. The models would also allow the company to position itself in the range above the RTX 4070, but below the RTX 4090, which is of interest to many buyers.

However, it is not yet possible to estimate what hardware and performance the models would offer. However, the naming suggests that the models could be roughly positioned as follows:

RTX 4090
RTX 4080 Super
RTX 4080
RTX 4070 Ti Super
RTX 4070 Ti
RTX 4070 Super
RTX 4070

Thinking outside the box: After Nvidia had abandoned super cards with RTX 3000, it seems unusual at first glance that they now want to bring the label back. However, the long waiting period for RTX 5000 of presumably three years makes the option seem realistic to us – Nvidia has to release something to bridge the time gap after all.

While the super designation is thus brought out and dusted off again, one thing would be completely new. We are talking about the RTX 4070 Ti Super. Previously, Nvidia had limited itself to calling models either Ti or Super – with Ti historically being ranked higher than Super.

The new card is supposed to combine both designations, however, and would thus place itself below the RTX 4080 above it in the smallest possible way in terms of name.

Do you trust the leaker @hongxing2020, or do you rather doubt his assessment? Which graphics card is in your PC, and which card are you considering buying next? Do you belong to Team Nvidia or rather Team Radeon? And anyway: What is your purchasing power when it comes to buying a graphics card? Feel free to write us your opinion about it in the comments.
