Arkane Austin’s last game was a financial flop. Now the game is being made fit for retirement with a final update – thanks to two new features
End. Over. That’s it. After almost 18 years, the lights are going out at Arkane Austin, the studio behind the flopped first-person shooterRedfall. Following the financially disappointing release of the vampire game last year, the new owner Microsoft announced a few weeks ago that it would be shutting down the studio. We also reported on this:
One last gift
But the developers didn’t want to go out without a bang – and have given their troubled game one last update to keep the game fit even in retirement. We explain what’s inside.
The extensive patch with the official nameGame Update 4
contains several new features for the vampire shooter. The most important ones:There is now finally an offline mode and the option to pause in single player
Both were elements that were criticized by the community as a major shortcoming upon release. And should the servers for Redfall be switched off at some point in the future, offline mode will probably be the only way to continue playing the game.
Game Update 4 is available now and features Offline Mode, ReVamped Neighborhood and Nest systems, Single Player Pausing, and more.

In addition, Redfall will receiveDLSS3 support, new vampire nests and a kind of popularity system calledCommunity Standing
If you help the inhabitants of Redfall, you can use the support you gain to buy upgrades for your safehouse thanks to this system.
Of course, Update 4 contains even more improvements and changes. As always, you can find the full patch notes on the second page of this article or directlyat publisher Bethesda However, you can no longer expect any further updates for RedfallThe game is officially buried for Microsoft
A difficult story
When it was released, the game was not only in a poor state technically In addition to bugs and performance issues, the poorly thought-out co-op concept and intrusive service requirements meant that the game was not really fun to play. The players were also anything but impressed:Only 6,000 people were on the Steam servers at release; the reviews are mostly negative with a score of 36 percent
However, the debacle did not end there:Announced updates were months in coming, and no buyer has yet seen the promised additional content of the Bite Back Edition. Instead, parent company Microsoft decided to quietly and secretly withdraw the edition from sale. It is unknown whether the company will offer buyers a refund here.
