The new Magic Set Adventures in the Forgotten Realms will be released in July. On board: one of the best characters from Baldur’s Gate and his animal companion.

Until Baldur’s Gate 3 leaves Early Access, you will have to wait until at least 2022. Whether the popular companion Minsc will find his way into the game by then is not yet certain. But if you still fancy a reunion with the crazy ranger, you now have the chance to do so in Magic: The Gathering Arena.

Minsc in Magic the Gathering – this you need to know

Who is Minsc anyway? The Ranger appears in the Bioware role-playing games Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate 2 as a companion that you can include in your party. The fan favourite is characterised by his great sense of justice. His pet is the hamster Boo. Minsc is firmly convinced that Boo is a miniature giant space hamster due to the many head injuries he has suffered over the years. Minsc also appears in various D&D comics such as “Legends of Baldur’s Gate”, among others.

What does Minsc do in Magic: The Gathering? The new set of the card game is called Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms and revolves around the Forgotten Realms, the fictional campaign world of Dungeons & Dragons. As part of this set, Minsc, his hamster Boo and other D&D characters will be released as playing cards, including the dragon goddess Tiamat or the dark elf Drizzt Do’Urden.

You can see the cards of Minsc and Boo here:

This is what Minsc can do in MTG: As soon as you have played Minsc, Boo will appear automatically. If you invest extra mana, you can use Minsc to give Boo (or another creature) extra stats until the end of your turn. However, the ability has a catch: because it is treated as a spell, it can be countered with counterspells and instant spells relatively easily.

When will the new set be released? Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms will first be available in the online game Magic the Gathering: Arena, where it will be released on 8 July 2021. Those who prefer to collect real cards will find the new booster packs and card sets at their trusted (online) retailer from 23 July 2021.
