You can’t get enough of One Piece? Then we have good news for you: Netflix and Studio Wit are working on a remake of the popular anime
The One Piece
instead of One Piece: 25 years after the launch of the legendary anime, Eiichiro Oda’s work is getting a remake. This is being made in collaboration between Netflix and Studio Wit and tells the story of the Straw Hat Pirates all over again.
Netflix sets everything back to square one with The One Piece
This means: The One Piece is described as a modern remake
that brings back the East Blue Saga in a nostalgic yet new way
to the world. The remake is dedicated to the first 61 episodes of the anime and the first 100 chapters of the manga respectively.
These chapters were also the subject of Netflix’s live-action series, which was surprisingly well received by critics and fans alike. Just a few months ago, One Piece was therefore renewed for a second season, which is now being worked on diligently
The One Piece production companies Toei Animation and Fuji Television are also on board. Anime fans should of course be familiar with Studio Wit by now: The team has already been responsible for projects such as Spy X Family, the first three seasons of Attack on Titan and Season 1 of Vinland Saga. Their latest project is Suicide Squad Isekai
A first teaser trailer for The One Piece is already available, but you shouldn’t expect too much:
Mayumi Tanaka has already been confirmed as the original Japanese voice actress for Monkey D. Ruffy for The One Piece. This means that it cannot be ruled out that the entire voice cast of the original anime may even return. However, fans will have to be patient. Because officially, the release date is still a long way off, as The One Piece is a lengthy project that will take even more time – no official release date has been communicated yet. One Piece was first published as a manga in 1997, followed by the anime in 1999. Over 1,101 chapters and 1,088 episodes have now been released. However, the story of the Straw Hat Pirates is currently heading towards its grand finale, while the Netflix live-action series and now the anime remake are telling the story all over again. What do you think about One Piece being given an anime remake after 25 years? Are you happy about it or could you do without it with a clear conscience? Do you actively follow the manga and/or anime and are you excited about the live-action adaptation? Let us know in the comments – we’d love to hear your opinion!
