The mighty Patch 5 has rolled over Baldur’s Gate 3 and has changed a lot about the role-playing game. We explain the most important changes, reveal a few little things that are well hidden and have the complete patch notes ready for you on page 2.

But be careful, there are some potential spoilers if you haven’t finished Act 3 yet. If you want to be on the safe side, just read our summary.

How big is Patch 5? The download is huge: you have to download 30 GB and you also need 130 GB of temporary free memory. If you can’t free this up on your hard disk, developer Larian recommends that you reinstall the game from scratch.

What’s in Patch 5 for Baldur’s Gate?

New Epilogue: Don’t worry, we’ll stay spoiler-free. The patch adds a few new scenes at the very end of your adventure so that you can say goodbye to your NPC companions properly

New game mode: In addition to the three previous difficulty levels, there is now also the Honor mode. This is even more challenging and gives bosses additional legendary actions, for example. There is only one game state and if you die, you can continue, but then the Honor mode is considered finished. Only those who complete the challenge from start to finish without a team kill will earn a golden cube skin

Customize difficulty: You can now freely set which aspects of the game should be how difficult in custom mode. You can set your own house rules, so to speak, for example that short rests heal the party completely or that failed perception rolls are not even displayed

Inventory management: You can now rearrange the inventory of all companions in the camp without having to add them to the active party.

Recruit Minthara: The dark elves from Act 1 could previously only accept truly evil players into their party. But now you can if you knock them out in battle instead of killing them. You can then meet them again later and win them over to your cause

New scenes and animations: Several cinematics have been slightly adapted and expanded. In addition, attentive fans have discovered that there are apparently new physics effects for male characters – you can take a look for yourself in the camp.
