Path of Exile 2 takes stock ten weeks after release – and announces major changes with update 0.2.0 to get you back into the action role-playing game.

Ten weeks after the early access launch of Path of Exile 2, the developers at Grinding Gear Games are looking back – and forward! In a comprehensive status update, they are now providing insights into the improvements made so far, the biggest problems with the game, and their plans for the upcoming update 0.2.0.

It becomes clear that the endgame and balance still need a lot of fine-tuning, and that’s exactly what the next major update is supposed to address.

8 Patches, 31 Hotfixes – but still a lot to do

Since the start of Early Access, the team has already released eight major patches and 31 hotfixes to fix bugs, adjust balancing, and improve your overall gaming experience.

The endgame in particular has undergone a number of changes:

  • More rewards: Rare monsters now drop better loot.
  • Difficulty adjustments: The start of the endgame has been made easier.
  • More variety: Four new tower maps and additional boss opponents have been added.
  • Checkpoints and respawn: Players can now move faster in maps.

Many quality of life improvements have also found their way into the game. Resetting the talent tree has become cheaper, the dodge roll is less likely to get stuck, and reviving in co-op mode is now much faster.

Despite these improvements, there are still some major issues that cannot be easily fixed with minor updates.

These problems still plague Path of Exile 2

According to Grinding Gear Games, there are four main issues currently spoiling your fun:

  1. Balance issues: Many abilities and builds are either too strong or too weak.
  2. Lack of unique items: There are too few legendary items that really change the gameplay.
  3. Endgame problems: Progress does not feel optimal, the right incentives are missing.
  4. Loot shortage: There aren’t enough exciting items to discover in the endgame.

Especially the balancing is a tricky matter: Although the developers originally nerfed some overpowered player skills already in Early Access, this was not well received by the community. Now they only want to make major adjustments with big updates like 0.2.0.

Update 0.2.0 is supposed to change a lot – but when?

To solve these problems, Grinding Gear Games is already working on version 0.2.0. The update is not only supposed to bring balance adjustments, but also a really big highlight that will lure players back into the game – could this be the first new class since the Early Access release?

An exact release date is not yet available, but the team plans to release major content updates every few months. So it shouldn’t be too long before we find out exactly what’s new in 0.2.0.
