On 13 May 2022, the newest league in Path of Exile will start with PoE: Sentinel.

The big feature of the new league are the Sentinels that give it its name: These small drones can be captured from enemies like loot and come, just like normal equipment, with a variety of possible modifiers and properties.

You equip them in a special slot and can then use them with their own hotkey to trigger special effects during combat:

  • Red drones track you for one minute and boost any enemies you spot.
  • Blue drones will boost any enemy currently on your screen.
  • Yellow drones work like the red ones, but only buff rare enemies and bosses.

Each drone can only be used once per map or area if you are still busy playing through the file.

In addition, each Sentinel only has a certain number of missions: At some point, they’ll run out and can’t be recharged. However, you can combine two empty drones and get a hybrid with random characteristics of the two originals, whose battery is fully charged again.

As is typical for PoE, the whole system is extremely complex, because you can customise the drones in numerous ways, for example with a kind of circuit system in which you unlock permanent reinforcements for all Sentinels.
