The raid failed for once: Payday 3 really crashes on Steam after release, but the developers claim to be working on improvements

Payday 3 experiences a real false start, the tires of the getaway car are shot and the police have surrounded them. (On Steam, the title is already at mostly negative), earning the vote thanks to only 32 percent positive reviews out of nearly 26,500. What’s going on there? Is Payday 3 just bad? No, let us explain.

Have you called Blizzard?

Because apparently the developers at Starbreeze Studios have been advised by Blizzard’s experts from the Diablo 3 era, where shortly after launch nothing worked (keyword: Error 37). The shooter is currently failing due to its broken matchmaking, as the servers are simply completely overloaded.

The situation is so catastrophic that the CEO personally felt compelled to go public on X – once Twitter:

We are very sorry that the infrastructure could not withstand the rush. And while it is impossible to prepare for every conceivable scenario, we should have done a better job. We are working non-stop until we restore the service and our players can play again.

What exactly is the problem?

Starbreeze explains (to Eurogamer) that the problem is due to the servers of a third-party provider. Payday 3 is simply dependent on them, and when unforeseen problems arose here, the service collapsed. Last weekend, the service provider still made a hasty update, but this also had new negative consequences for matchmaking.

Together, both teams are currently working to get the situation under control so that the matchmaking servers can withstand the huge rush of players.

What are they doing in the coming days?

The infrastructure will continue to be upgraded, however, which is why Payday 3 will also be offline from 8am to 11am German time next Friday, September 29. During this time, there might also be an update of the software on the servers as well as the clients at your computers/consoles.

Taking a look at the (official X-account of the title) certainly won’t hurt if one or the other plans a round of Heisten on Friday morning.

What is Starbreeze doing in the long term?

All new and offline? The developers want to look for a new partner for the online structure in the future and also reduce Payday 3’s dependence on its online component. Possibly even a true offline mode will come at some point.

In the launch trailer above, you’ll experience Payday action the way fans want it.

How about you guys? Are you trying your hand at a round or two of Payday 3 or are you currently giving the gangster action game a wide berth? Have you had the predecessor on your hard drive for a long time and are simply avoiding it again, or does the series leave you cold anyway?
