A playtest is currently running for EA’s Project Rene, which was once supposed to be The Sims 5. Fans have a lot to complain about in the leaked data.
Project Rene – this was once the name of The Sims 5. But the successor to The Sims 4 will not be happening. At least not in the way fans thought.
According to EA, Project Rene will instead be a multiplayer spin-off of the series.A playtest for this has recently started, and screenshots from it have now landed on Reddit and X, formerly Twitter– which have caused disillusionment among fans.

In the subreddit GamingLeaksAndRumours, a heated discussion about the game has also emerged. Here, user GorbigliontheStrong writes to
This is without a doubt the ugliest art style I’ve ever seen in a game. What the hell?
But keep in mind that it has not been confirmed whether the images are really from the playtest. And even if they are, it is an unfinished version So the graphics in particular may still change to a certain extent.
Possible microtransactions under fire
In addition to the graphics, users are also criticizing possible planned microtransactions. Various outfits can be seen in some images that apparently can be purchased with in-game currency. The user bellamy-bl8ke
This looks… so bad. The microtransactions for outfits are crazy!
The user spidersprinkles draws a parallel to the mobile game The Sims:
In it, you can work in a café and buy new outfits. It seems like it will be pretty much exactly the same, just maybe a little different.
Just recently, EA announced its plans for Project Rene in an investor presentation. The project is to be part of a Sims universe in the future – together with the relaunch of My Sims on the Switch, a new mobile game and The Sims 4.
The latter is to be the basis of the “future growth strategy,” said EA’s head of entertainment, Laura Miele. In addition, the company wants to work more closely with content creators in the future to officially sell fan-made in-game content in the form of collections.
