On Pokémon Day, we can expect brand new information about new products and games in the franchise. About an expansion for Pokémon Legends: Arceus as well as a brand new main game is speculated.

The Pokémon Company is anything but sparing with new content and announcements. Just one month after the successful release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Pokémon Day is coming up on 27 February. Fans, meanwhile, are hoping for the announcement of a new main game featuring a brand new generation of the pocket monsters.

To celebrate the original Pokémon games on 27 February 1996, Pokémon Day is held every year. As in previous years, upcoming additions to existing games and possibly new projects will be announced on Sunday. On Monday, the Pokémon Company started the countdown, revealing more content every day.

Additional bonuses for the mobile game Pokémon Master EX have already been announced on the Japanese (Pokémon website). In the following days, further content for Sword & Shield (Gen 8) as well as the MOBA Pokémon Unite and the former hype game Pokémon GO are to be announced, among others.

Speculation around expansion and new generation

For months, there has been speculation about a possible ninth generation of Pokémon, which would be the successor to Sword & Shield. However, no solid information is available so far. However, a release of a new title would fit the time frame. There have always been three years between the past four generations, and the release of Generation 8 is dated November 2019.

In previous announcements on Pokémon Day, brand new generations and initial content were revealed. This was the case in 2016 with Sun & and Moon, and in 2019 with Sword & Shield.

As likely, fans estimate a DLC for Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Individual leakers are fuelling the rumour mill. Last year, the open-world game was announced together with the remakes of Shining Pearl & Radiant Diamond. Because the game offers potential for new exploration locations, additional content seems likely. However, there is no solid evidence. In the past, Pokémon Sword & Shield already received two DLCs.

On 25 February, a new song based on the first Japanese editions Red & Green will be released. This was also announced on Monday. All the full information will be finalised on Sunday – either removing or further fuelling the preliminary speculation.
