Having your teammate’s back, healing Power Points and annoying enemies – Supporters in Pokémon Unite should never be underestimated.

Three supporters are coming to the MOBA game for the launch of Pokémon Unite in July. These include the familiar pocket monsters Knuddeluff and Pantimos from the first generation, as well as one of the newest plant Pokémon – Cottomi.

The typical support varies for all three Pokémon. While Cottomi specialises mainly in expected healing, Pantimos rather erects barriers to reduce damage from the opponent or even cut them off from the action. Knuddeluff can put opponents to sleep and thus buy valuable time for the team.

Underneath classic support, buffs are usually relied upon. Taking a close look at Cottomi, we find these elements at their best. The ranged fighter evolves from Cottini from level 4 and accompanies teammates to increase their speed and restore their power points.

Cottomi’s stats

– Offence: 1.5 stars

– Toughness: 2 stars

– Mobility: 2.5 stars

– Scoring: 2.5 stars

– Support: 4 stars

Thanks to the passive ability, Cottomi heals herself after taking a certain amount of damage. The attackers are also damaged and slowed down. Meanwhile, Cottomi even becomes faster. Accordingly, it is useful to increase the KP or to improve the healing abilities. The items Bump Helmet and Shell Bell are useful for this. The latter lets Cottomi do more damage with special attacks and at the same time drains the opponent’s KP.

The attack Grass Mixer ensures that teammates in the created area get a speed bonus. In addition, the accuracy of the opponents is lowered as soon as they enter the area. Similarly, cottonseed absorbs damage within an area, throwing it back at the enemy and slowing them down further. With this template, the Plant Pokémon can also use the Unite attack Fluff to pounce on opponents and still heal them – ideal for teamfighting.

How Supporters are played
Supporters switch between active and passive almost constantly. While Knuddeluff and Cottomi have to develop first, caution is advised in the early game. Supporters should not go it alone anyway. Rather, it is important to team up with a teammate on the top or bottom lane and heal them or give them buffs, respectively.

Because the attack power of the supporters is poor and therefore also the levelling takes time, the item EP divider is suitable. This gives the Pokémon with the fewest experience points in the team additional EP – and usually that is the supporter. In addition, the EP divider increases the maximum HP slightly.

Another item is available for the supporters: the buddy barrier. As soon as Pantimos and Co. perform their Unite attack, the user receives a shield and the teammate with the lowest KP also. Especially with the right timing, this tactic can lead to victory in team fights.
