StarCraft: Remastered
(Genre: Real-time strategy – Developer: Blizzard Entertainment – Release:August 14, 2017)
Starcraft will need no introduction for most readers. With Prime, however, you don”t get the original version of the real-time strategy classic for free, but the remaster from 2017. This polishes up the graphics in particular, as you can see in the comparison video above. In addition, dialogues have been re-recorded and the cutscenes have been renewed in comic style.
The gameplay, however, remains completely unchanged. So if you want to experience the battles between Terrans, Protoss and Zerg or the tragic story of Sarah Kerrigan as it was in 1998, then it”s best to get your hands on it.
Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders
(Genre: Point & Click Adventure – Developer: Lucasfilm – Release:January 1, 1988)
With McKracken, we go even further back in time. The more than 30-year-old point & click adventure certainly doesn”t shine with outstanding graphics, but it tells a wonderfully absurd and humorous story. Just look at the summary:
Aliens have built a stupidity machine that slowly but surely reduces the IQ of all humans to single-digit values. But it gets worse: the only one who can stop it is Zak McKracken, reporter for the disreputable newspaper National Inquisitor, who makes up stories about flesh-eating honeydew melons and vegetarian vampires.
By the way, you”ll be accompanied on your journey by Annie, Leslie and Melissa, who have travelled to Mars in their modified van!
Beasts of Maravilla Island
(Genre: Adventure – Developer: Banana Bird Studios – Release:12 June 2021)
In Beasts of Maravilla, you explore the picturesque island mentioned in the title as a wildlife photographer. In keeping with your profession, your main task there is to capture the local wildlife in photos. You can also elicit their unique behaviour and document it. But this is not just for fun:
For the unique island and its creatures are in danger, as a spell that has protected them for a long time is disappearing. With the help of your grandfather”s notes, however, you have a chance to save everything. To do so, you must explore the island and interact with the fauna and flora to solve puzzles.
Recompile
(Genre: Metroidvania/Adventure – Developer: Phigames – Release:19 August 2021)
Have you ever wanted to know how an unwanted programme feels when you delete it from your hard drive? No? In Recompile, you get to feel this situation anyway. As a semi-intelligent programme (is that an insult?) you fight against your deletion. In the neon-coloured computer world, you can expect platformer mechanics, battles and logic-based hacking puzzles.
You can skilfully manipulate systems and beings inhabiting the computer to your advantage. The trailer above shows you roughly what the game looks like.
ScourgeBringer
(Genre: Roguelite – Developer: Flying Oak Games, E-Studio – Release:Oct 21, 2020)
Killing entire hordes of demons, suitably accompanied by metal music? What sounds like doom at first is actually a roguelite platformer called Scourgebringer. It sends you as the deadly warrior Kyhra into a post-apocalyptic world that has been devastated by a mysterious being.
You explore the unknown depths and defeat numerous enemies and bosses to find the truth about the past – and a chance for redemption for humanity. The game features a fast-paced combat system that focuses solely on gun and sword attacks.
Family Mysteries: Poisonous Promises
(Genre: Hidden object game – Developer: Brave Giant – Release:26 March 2020)
In a city of the rich and famous, a mysterious accident occurs when a yacht explodes. But what is really behind it and why does one of the dead show traces of poison? In Poisonous Promises you investigate as a detective with your partner Duke to solve the mystery of a rich family dynasty. Stylistically, the game is reminiscent of the police series of the 80s. As usual in similar games, you have to find hidden objects in different scenes and use them cleverly to get ahead. Are there any Prime games in August that appeal to you? Or are you rather disappointed by the selection? Feel free to post your opinions in the comments!
