If you have a PS5 at home, you can look forward to a whole host of games in 2024. But 13 stand out from the crowd. These are the PlayStation highlights of the year.

2024 may not be a year in which Sony flexes its exclusive muscles. But PS5 players won”t be left completely empty-handed. The year is full of top-class releases for the console – but people without a PS5 can often enjoy them too

In our release list, you”ll find the 13 most exciting games coming to PlayStation in 2024. It doesn”t matter whether they are also coming to PC or Xbox. These games enrich every platform! At least we hope so. The list is sorted by release date:

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered

(Genre: Action-Adventure – Developer: Naughty Dog – Release: January 19, 2024)

We”ve already seen that Naughty Dog has almost no inhibitions when it comes to the time gap between release and remaster. After all, The Last of Us Part 1 was remastered for the PlayStation 4 just one year later and has now even been remade for the PS5. It”s a similar story for The Last of Us 2, which is getting a graphical PS5 remaster four years after its PS4 release

You can think what you like about that. But at least it”s always worth recommending these games. Because The Last of Us is one of the best that Sony has ever produced. This applies to the first part, of course, but the sequel also joins the list of the best games of all time. Especially if you are fascinated by very serious and dramatic stories

The Last of Us 2 hits where it hurts the most. But there is often more to it than just moments of shock and the pressure on the tear ducts. The Last of Us conveys real emotions, and not just through its extremely lifelike characters. The uncompromising gameplay also makes you feel sick to your stomach, especially due to the level of violence. Not an end in itself, but a reflection of what The Last of Us is all about. The value of human life and blind revenge

Tekken 8

(Genre: Fighting Game – Developer: Bandai Namco – Release: January 26, 2024)

If you know anything about games, you will of course have heard the name Tekken before. The series is one of the longest-running fighting series ever and has been delighting fans for half an eternity. Tekken celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2024 and is also releasing the eighth installment in the series

You shouldn”t expect particularly big innovations on the gameplay side, but my goodness – it”s Tekken! And with really stunningly good visuals to boot. It doesn”t get old seeing the Irish assassin Nina denting the tiger”s head of the Mexican professional wrestler King

Some long-lost fighters also make their comeback in Tekken 8, such as Jun Kazama, who hasn”t been part of the roster for 25 years. In addition, a completely new character, the Peruvian martial arts master Azucena, will also be cracking her knuckles. We”ve already tried out how much fun it all is in practice

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

(Genre: Action-Adventure – Developer: Rocksteady – Release: February 2, 2024)

After years of hunting down criminals in the guise of the masked avenger with a penchant for bats, this time Rocksteady puts us in the boots of some supervillains who are trying to put an end to Batman. And not just Batman. All the other members of the mighty superhero group known as the Justice League also go completely crazy in Suicide Squad.

So naturally the dirty work falls to a wild assortment of suicidal criminals to bring these near-godlike antagonists to ground. As Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot and the giant King Shark, it”s off to Superman”s hometown of Metropolis, where you can take down the henchmen of the alien invader Brainiac alone or in co-op – and take down the Justice League.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will be a colorful action-fest in which you level up your heroes, collect better equipment and then throw yourself into massive boss battles against Batman, Wonderwoman and co. Let”s hope that the whole thing is more fun than in Gotham Knights.

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

(Genre: Action role-playing game – Developer: Don”t Nod – Release: February 13, 2024)

With Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden the studio behind Life is Strange is attempting its second elaborately produced action role-playing game, which takes you to North America in the 17th century. As ghost hunter Red Mac Raith, you roam the open wilderness and take on all kinds of monstrous creatures.

The true core of Banishers lies neither in exploring the open world nor in fighting ghosts. Banishers is designed to stir up your emotions with its emotional story and also unearth some really crunchy moral questions. For example, in addition to Red, you also control his wife Antea, who now fights alongside him as a ghost after her tragic death. As you progress, you will repeatedly ask yourself whether you should bring the love of your life back to life or whether the price is simply too high

Skull and Bones

(Genre: Multiplayer-Action – Developer: Ubisoft Singapore – Release: February 16, 2024)

Open and honest: Skull and Bones could be the biggest flop of the year. After all, this game has had an incredibly lengthy development history and when it is finally released on February 16, 2024, almost seven years will have passed on the horizon since its announcement. Including several postponements. This often shows that something is wrong at the core

At the same time, it will be incredibly exciting to see what”s really in store for us at the end of the day! Basically, the idea behind the project is quite interesting. After all, Ubisoft is trying to turn the highly acclaimed ship battles from Assassin”s Creed: Blackflag into an adventurous pirate game and add a multiplayer component on top of that. However, this mixture has never fully convinced us in our play sessions

But with the Klabautermann! We really want it to work! And the ship battles are really fun. Just don”t expect such a comprehensive pirate experience as in Sea of Thieves.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

(Genre: Role-playing game – Developer: Square Enix – Release: February 29, 2024)

Final Fantasy 7 is considered one of the best role-playing games of all time, in which you take on the role of the former Shinra soldier Cloud Strife, who now takes action against his former employer as a member of the resistance group Avalanche. The remake takes a very unusual approach and splits the plot of the original into three independently playable parts. The first part was released in 2020 with the simple nickname Remake Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth forms the centerpiece of the trilogy.

But it”s not just the layout that makes for a slightly different gaming experience than before. A lot has also changed in terms of content. Gone is the turn-based combat system; instead, action-heavy battles take place in real time. In addition, the storyline now takes much longer turns and is even drastically altered in places. Rebirth in particular should now show the biggest deviations, after the predecessor took a surprising turn towards the end

In terms of gameplay, there should also be some changes. For example, Rebirth adds some quite large open-world areas and the combat system has been optimized.

Rise of the Ronin

(Genre: Action RPG – Developer: Team Ninja – Release: March 22, 2024)

The team behind the Souls-like Nioh is now doing the same as FromSoftware and also daring to create its very own open world. In Rise of the Ronin you are transported to the historical Japan of the year 1863. Of course, there is a lot of turmoil at the moment, because otherwise a journey through this open game world would certainly be boring. The fall of the Tokugawa Shogunate and the arrival of Western powers are causing chaos here.

In the midst of this upheaval, you must assert yourself as a masterless samurai. What exactly your goal will be and which opponents you will have to deal with in the course of the story has not yet been explained in detail. However, the game has a noticeably more stringent story focus than Elden Ring, for example. Nevertheless, you are free to decide how the plot unfolds and which characters you take out in open combat or from ambush.

Dragon”s Dogma 2

(Genre: Action RPG – Developer: Capcom – Release: March 22, 2024)

Fans of its predecessor have been waiting years for Dragon”s Dogma 2. The open-world role-playing game has earned a good reputation and has a very Western look, even though it is actually being developed in Japan. You create your very own hero and then set off to explore a huge fantasy world.

The game world is significantly larger than in its predecessor. The action-packed battles, in which we can specialize in melee or ranged combat as well as magic, sound standard for the genre. But Dragon”s Dogma has a few surprises up its sleeve. For example, particularly large enemies can also be climbed instead of fighting against their shins. In addition, your character can always have three companions with them, the so-called minions, which can also be characters from your friends” game.

Black Myth: Wukong

(Genre: Action-Adventure – Developer: Game Science – Release: August 20, 2024)

The fast-paced action-fest Black Myth: Wukong already captivated its audience when it was announced in 2020. Back then, it was the amazingly crisp graphics in particular that caused a huge stir. But it also looked like great entertainment in terms of gameplay. However, we have not yet been able to play the Chinese production, which is why there are still countless question marks hanging over Black Myth: Wukong

What we have seen of the game so far, however, gives us hope for something really big. After all, this world not only looks technically top-notch, but also boasts some really imaginative designs and great creatures, such as giant turtles, strange lantern people and the main character himself. Here you become the mythological Monkey King from the popular Chinese legend The Journey to the West

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero

(Genre: Fighting Game – Developer: Spike Chunsoft – Release: 2024)

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi is probably one of the most popular game series among fans of one of the biggest manga and anime hits of all time. These games pit you against each other in large, destructible arenas where you throw heaps of special attacks at each other. From Kamehameha to Final Flash, everything is included. And the selection of fighters was always huge. Budokai Tenkaichi 3 had over 100 fighters at the time – even more if we count the huge number of transformations

And what does all this have to do with Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero to do? Even if the name is different, this is basically Budokia Tenkaichi 4 and therefore a long-awaited sequel. The only question is whether it will cover the Dragon Ball sagas as extensively as before. After all, Sparking! Zero now also draws on Dragon Ball Super and would therefore have to incorporate significantly more fighters and transformations than in the Dragon Ball Z era. But if they succeed, it will be a feast for fans of Son-Goku and co.

Silent Hill 2 Remake

(Genre: Survival-Horror – Developer: Bloober Team – Release: 2024)

Silent Hill 2 is a horror classic that has shaped numerous games that came after it. Especially because this game tells a timelessly good story. A story that delves deep into the psyche of the protagonist James Sunderland and brings out things that James would rather not have had to deal with.

But, and therein lies the genius of Silent Hill 2, James simply has to face these demons. Only then it”s us who do the same, running through the iconic creepy town while grotesque horrors await us in the fog. The remake will completely rework the original and, in addition to a contemporary look, will probably also tweak the combat system. However, fans are already shuddering at the thought that the remake could change even the tiniest details of the story. After all, as far as that is concerned, everything just fit together in 2001

Star Wars Outlaws

(Genre: Action-Adventure – Developer: Ubisoft Massive – Release: 2024)

It”s hard to believe. A franchise as huge as Star Wars has existed for decades and yet there has never been a flawless open-world adventure in this universe. Jedi Survivor probably comes closest, but it also only offered half an open world. With Star Wars Outlaws, a classic adventure with an open universe will finally be released in 2024, in which we can even fly from one planet to the next without loading screens. Unless you count a hyperspace jump as a loading screen.

The whole thing is being developed by the open-world experts at Ubisoft. Which can be good and bad, but at least the team at Massive recently showed with Avatar that not every open world from Ubisoft has to feel boring.

With its focus on the galactic underworld of this universe, Outlaws also brings back a few memories of games like GTA. But whether it works in the same way and has a similarly believable world remains to be seen

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf

(Genre: Role-playing game – Developer: Bioware – Release: 2024)

Is BioWare returning to its role-playing roots or will Dragon Age: Dreadwolf once again be more of an action RPG with party management? After the once highly acclaimed studio has lost much of its former charisma in recent years with works such as Mass Effect: Andromeda or Anthem, the new Dragon Age could mark a return to its former greatness.

However, this is far from certain. After all, we know almost nothing about Dreadwolf. Although there are a few hints as to which part of the world we”ll be heading to this time and we already know the main antagonist, Solas, Bioware is keeping a very tight lid on everything else. We”ve summarized the most important information for you in our overview. But even we haven”t seen any real gameplay yet. So it remains very, very exciting to see how things will continue with Bioware

Whether the game will be released in 2024 is also far from certain. But it”s guaranteed not to happen before summer 2024, because that”s when the game is supposed to be unveiled.
