RDNA 4: Two upcoming Radeon GPUs probably won’t beat the RX 7900 XT – first price ranges leaked

Two of the upcoming AMD GPUs will definitely be below the current flagship models from the RX 7000 series.

Before you ask yourselves, why we only write RX 9000/RDNA 4 and no longer RX 8000 in the following text: Currently, the rumor is that AMD will change the naming scheme for the upcoming GPU generation.

Even independently of the actual name of the graphics cards, the rumor mill was buzzing about the new Radeon models.

The leaker All_The_Watts, who had correct information about the already released Strix Point APUs, named a performance classification and a US price for the new AMD GPUs.

  • According to this, the RX 9070 XT should be at least on par with the RX 7900 GRE, but also below the RX 7900 XT and rely on a 256-bit memory interface. In view of this, 16 GB of video memory is likely for this model.
  • The “regular” RX 9070, meanwhile, is said to be roughly equivalent to the RX 7800 XT and to have a 192-bit memory interface. Here, 12 GB VRAM is the logical conclusion.
  • The graphics cards based on Navi 48 will also cost between $450 and $650. By contrast, the smaller Navi 44 variants will cost between $179 and $349.

The classification of the RX 9070 XT also explains why AMD recently stopped production of the RX 7900 GRE. This means that the “old generation” will at least no longer be in direct competition with the new releases, which AMD naturally wants to bring to buyers at the time of release.

Given the naming scheme, the option also remains that a “RX 9080” or “RX 9090” is still in the works with RDNA 4, representing the graphics card circulating in speculation that is supposed to take on the Nvidia RTX 4080 in ray tracing.

The release period of the RX 9070 XT is also being further clarified. The upcoming RDNA-4 GPU is scheduled to be released at the same time as the new X3D processors around the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and 9950X3D, as reported by the usually well-informed leaker AnhPhuH

  • At the time of publication of this hardware, the new version of FidelityFX Super Resolution should also be released. According to AnhPhuH, FSR 4, along with the switch to AI upscaling and possible “real-time path tracing”, should also be released at the same time as the new GPU generation and the two new CPUs.
  • In both cases, rumors assume a presentation at CES 2025; the actual market launch is likely to take place at the end of January.
