Red Dead Redemption Remaster: Barely announced & already in review

Yesterday afternoon, Rockstar Games officially announced the remaster of Red Dead Redemption. But fans are anything but thrilled. That’s because the legendary western adventure is only coming to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.

Red Dead Redemption is probably one of the most popular games of the 2010s – and rightly so. Not only the gripping story of the former outlaw John Marston excited the community, but also the gameplay with the interplay of action-packed shootouts and exploration of the Wild West brought much joy.

When the hints of a remaster hardened more and more in the last few months, the community was naturally excited. Who wouldn’t want to relive the first part of the Wild West epic in modern technology?

When the (official announcement) of the Red Dead Redemption remaster finally came yesterday afternoon, however, the big cheers failed to materialize. That’s because Rockstar will only release the remaster for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 -at a time when both platforms are more last-gen than current-gen.

The lack of porting for both Xbox and PCis particularly bizarre. After all, it wasn’t just for both platforms that the acclaimed sequel was released. When it was originally released in 2010, they had also released a version for the Xbox 360.
So while Xbox gamers have at least been able to play Red Dead Redemption, PC gamers will probably be left out entirely.

The positive things about Red Dead Redemption Remaster

Admittedly, this announcement from Rockstar is anything but understandable. But as the past has shown, it could be that PlayStation has entered into some sort of exclusivity deal with Rockstar and the release for PC and Xbox has just been pushed back for some time

The fact that they are relying on last-gen technology could also be related to the fact that Rocktstar cannot currently provide any major resources for a “decent” Red Dead Redemption remaster. After all, they are working diligently on GTA VI.

However, one might ask again: Why bother at all and bring a rather bad than right remaster version of a beloved classic on the market?

Red Dead Redemption will be released together with the DLC Undead Nightmare on August17 at a proud price of 49,99 Euro for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. However, this is only the digital release. The physical release is scheduled for October13
