“Revolutionary” new AI technology is supposed to make NPCs in Inzoi react ‘like humans’

With the help of Nvidia’s ACE technology, conventional NPCs should be able to make their own decisions in the life simulation.

Inzoi, the new potential star in the sky of life simulations, has recently been postponed to 2025. It is scheduled to start in early access on March 28.

Now Krafton, the studio behind Inzoi, reveals that they have delved deep into the AI bag of tricks for the new Sims competitor. Because the Zois, as the NPCs are called in the game, are supposed to behave less like computers and more like humans. To do this, the game uses AI technology from Nvdia.

AI-based companions in PUBG and Inzoi

You may remember it from The Sims. The fireplace is crackling and the houseplant next to it unexpectedly catches fire. What does the neighbor we invited do? He stands screaming and shouting in the middle of the flames. Well, that went badly. In Inzoi, the NPCs are supposed to behave more cleverly, which is why they are also called “Smart Zoi”.

At the CES 2025 IT trade show, Krafton presented its new “Co-Playable Character” (CPC).

CES 2025 marks an important milestone for Krafton, as we showcase AI technology that is set to revolutionize the gaming industry. We plan to work closely with Nvidia to transform the user experience with AI-powered innovations. One example of this is the CPCs developed with Nvidia ACE, which will redefine the future of gaming.

With the help of Nvidia’s Avatar Cloud Engine (ACE) and a device-based Small Language Model (SLM), the game characters are equipped with adaptive behavior patterns. Unlike NPCs, the CPCs are designed to interact with players and understand game situations like humans. This is demonstrated in this video:

For example, if the smart Zois notice a starving person, they should go to the nearest store to buy some food. Based on their experiences and personalities, they should be able to make decisions, making the world seem more alive and unpredictable.

Not only the new life simulation should benefit from this technology. Krafton also plans to incorporate the AI model into the battle royale shooter PUBG.

But then it’s less about lively everyday situations and more about effective communication with AI-controlled companions In the future, you should be able to communicate with them using voice commands, for example, to instruct them to look for ammunition.

In 2022, Krafton had founded the Deep Learning division, in which various technologies in the areas of language processing, animation, speech synthesis and multi-modal learning were developed.
