The RTX 5000 generation is just around the corner – but what will the new flagship be able to do? We collect all the leaks and rumors.
Nvidia’s Ada Lovelace generation made its debut on October 12, 2022 with the Geforce RTX 4090. The GPU was thus also the first model to feature DLSS 3.0 and frame generation, resulting in an enormous leap in performance.
From the outset, the current top-of-the-range graphics card was monstrous – you can choose whether we’re talking about the card’s dimensions, its technical data or its price.
Now, almost two years have passed since the release of the RTX 4090, so the rumor mill has been focusing on the next generation for quite some time: the RTX 5000 series, codenamed Blackwell
, is expected to be introduced soon.
What rumors and leaks are circulating about the RTX 5090 are shown in the following overview.

RTX 5090 release
Nvidia is taking more time than usual with the RTX 5000 series – because the rumors currently circulating are talking about a release of the RTX 5090 in January 2025.
So far, Nvidia has maintained a roughly two-year gap between its flagships. This was the case with the RTX 2080 (September 2018), the RTX 3090 (September 2020) and the RTX 4090 (October 2022).
The presentation of the new flagship is scheduled to take place in a keynote address at CES 2025 in the early morning of January 7.
RTX 5090 price
The final price of Nvidia’s new top model has not yet been determined. However, there are initial indications of where the journey could lead. On X, leaker @wxnod recently showed a screenshot with Chinese prices:

Converted, this results in a price of around 2,500 euros for the RTX 5090. However, we have to factor out the Chinese sales tax of 13 percent and factor in the sales tax of 19 percent. Then the graphics card would cost around 2,633 euros. For comparison:
- RTX 4090 Founders Edition price at launch: 1,949 euros
- RTX 3090 Founders Edition price at launch: 1,499 euros
Although leaker @wxnod is not considered the most reliable source, a price of 2,633 euros sounds based on earlier rumors that placed the flagship between 1,999 and 2,499 US dollars (excluding taxes), but not completely unrealistic.
The technical specs of the RTX 5090 are eagerly awaited. After all, Nvidia was able to deliver a decent performance boost from the RTX 3090 to the RTX 4090, as was also evident in our test.
Leaks about the possible specs have been doing the rounds for quite some time, which is why they are now considered well-founded.
Table of Contents
RTX 5090: Shader units
- The number is expected to grow to 21,760 cores for the RTX 5090 (+33 percent compared to the RTX 4090).
- The RTX 5090 Ti could even have 24,576 cores (+50 percent compared to the RTX 4090)
RTX 5090: Memory
The amount of graphics memory installed should also increase significantly compared to its direct predecessor. 32 GB GDDR7 has been discussed for a while, and recently accidentally published documents from hardware manufacturer Acer confirm this.
RTX 5090: Consumption
There are various statements about the power consumption of the graphics card.
- First, a leak from a power supply manufacturer spoke of up to 500 watts.
- Another rumor increases the value to 600 watts.
Meanwhile, the 600 watts are considered relatively safe, even if there is no official confirmation. We are curious.

RTX 5090: size
Despite increases in every area, the RTX 5090 is supposed to be smaller. At least one leak claims that the corresponding Founders Edition will only have a 2-slot cooler.
RTX 5090 chip
Speaking of specs: the chip of the Geforce RTX 5090 is also taken to a new level – not only literally. This is because the GB202 chip that is probably built in is supposed to rely on MCM for the first time in Nvidia’s history.
With MCM, the so-called

The idea itself is decades old in the strictest sense. In 1967, IBM used a Solid Logic Technology
module (SLT) in the System/360 (Model 91), which combined both logic and memory elements on a single ceramic ceramic substrate.
However, multi-chip modules made their breakthrough in gaming graphics cards with the AMD Radeon RX 7000 – so now it is being rumored that Nvidia wants to follow suit.
Now we want to hear from you: What do you expect from the RTX 5000 series? Under what conditions would you consider buying a new Nvidia graphics card? Or are you happier with AMD Radeon? Let us know in the comments!
