Never-before-seen screenshots of the discontinued Life by You show what we’ll never get, and it’s hitting fans hard

It was supposed to declare war on EA’s Sims:Life by Youwas a life simulation thatwanted to move very close to the players. The world should be completely customizable and thus fulfill the fans’ dream of a truly open life simulation.

But then: the dream was over. After several postponements, Life by Youwas canceled shortly before release. The reason for this is said to have been the excessive ambitions of publisher Paradox and studio Tectonic. Nevertheless, the game was already at a very advanced stage of development andthis is now made painfully clear by previously unreleased screenshots

We’ll probably never see the crafting system in action either:

This is what Life by You could have looked like

On Twitter/X, a fan collected screenshots from the portfolios of various artists who worked on Life by You. In addition to images from the character editor and the build mode, there is also &nbspconcept art

In the comments, people gathered to mourn what will never exist. The realization that the game seemed extremely advanced hit particularly hard.

User ” mikey ” writes:

You’re just rubbing our noses in what we’ll never get.

User Alviie was actually hoping that ending Life by You might have been the better decision:

Before I saw this, I thought, “Maybe it’s better that they discontinued it. I didn’t like it from the beginning and I didn’t see much improvement over time” and now I think:I just want it, with these [screenshots] you can really see the progress

Some, like user Simseries, wished they had never seen these pictures:

What’s the point of showing us these screenshots if the game has been discontinued? We were all super excited and impatient; and in the end we were all extremely disappointed… 🙁 Could have been a great game!

Life by You was developed under Rod Humble, who was already in charge of Sims 2 and Sims 3. This made the bad news about the sudden discontinuation of the title all the more shocking. What exactly led to the discontinuation of development is not entirely clear at the moment. Above you can find articles on the topic and an opinion piece about the publisher Paradox.

How did you cope with the discontinuation of Life by You? Are the screenshots salt in the wound for you too or are you glad they were released? Let us know in the comments
