At the weekend, industry insider Tom Henderson revealed that Ubisoft has a brand new game in the legendary Prince of Persia series on the way. Entitled “The Rogue Prince of Persia”, the game is being developed by none other than developer studio Evil Empire. The studio has already made a name for itself with the indie success Dead Cells.
According to Henderson’s sources The Rogue Prince of Persia will redefine the roguelite genre with elements based on permanent community feedback and will be based on the game’s original design. This signals a significant departure from the more traditional, linear adventures the series is known for. Development of the game is said to have begun four years ago, after Ubisoft and Evil Empire decided to collaborate during GDC 2019
One notable detail about “The Rogue Prince of Persia” is its artistic direction, which is said to be heavily inspired by Franco-Belgian comics. This suggests a unique visual style that could appeal to both old fans and newcomers to the series.
A confirmed source tells Insider Gaming that “The Rogue Prince of Persia” will be unveiled on April 10 and released in Steam Early Access on May 14. This strategy follows the successful model of Dead Cells, which sold over 850,000 copies during its Early Access phase and reached a total of 10 million units by 2023.
