With the August update, it’s going to get really wet in Rust, because it’s all about water – sharks, submarines and torpedoes included!

Even though the big Twitch hype around Rust has died down a bit, the developers of Facepunch Studios continue to work diligently on new content for the survival hit. After a major update in July that, among other things, brought support for Nvidia’s DLSS technology into the game, the huge August update now delivers numerous new contents: In keeping with the season, there’s a big cool-down, because in the next patch you’ll be moving from land to sea.

You can find the most important information about the update in this article, while you can get a first glimpse of the new content in the video by Rust expert Shadowfrax:

Sharks, Submarines and more in the Rust Update

Actually, Rust is dangerous enough as it is. Not only are there enemy players behind every hill, who love to finish off even unarmed beginners, but there are also AI-controlled enemies. With the sea update, there are now numerous other ways in which you can meet your end.

Sharks: So that it’s also dangerous in the water in the future, sharks must of course not be missing – after all, there are aggressive wild animals like wolves or wild boars on the mainland too. So that you are not completely defenceless against them, you can make a harpoon.

Underwater laboratories: New monuments come into play so that there is an incentive for a trip into the cool water. The underwater labs are completely procedurally generated and thus look different on every server. In the underwater stations you will most likely be able to find AI enemies and lots of loot in crates and barrels.

Submarines: In order to get to the underwater labs safely, there will also be submarines. These come in two variants, for one and for two passengers. They can be bought in fishing villages and cost 200 or 300 scrap, depending on the size you choose. The vessels are equipped with torpedoes that can be used against underwater targets and also against boats on the water’s surface.

Fishing: Last but not least, you may also stand on the nearest dock with your rod and fish comfortably. There are supposed to be different types of bait to catch fish with. You can then eat them or sell them for scrap in fishing villages. Some of the sea creatures will even give you some loot that they must have swallowed while swimming around.

When will the update be released?

The August update will be released on Thursday, 5 August 2021. At the same time, the official game servers will all be wiped, so now is your best chance to get a fresh start.
