An artist from the series reboot’s development team posted screenshots of stunning environments that had apparently not yet been approved for release.

With the reboot of the wacky gangster open-world Saints Row, developer Volition wants to give the series, which competes primarily with GTA, a fresh coat of paint. This applies to the gameplay as well as the graphics.

The graphics are to break away from the previous comic look and follow more realistic paths. The screenshots recently published on the Artstation profile of an experienced artist of the team now show how breathtakingly beautiful these paths should look.

Published too early?

The original post in Senior Environmental Artist Tim Wasson’s portfolio was promptly deleted, but as is so often the case, the internet has a hard time forgetting. Fans continue to admire the picturesque shots in a Reddit thread and on Twitter, among other places.

With their rocky desert charm and sprawling cactus steppes, the landscapes inspired by the Southwest of the USA are reminiscent of the settings of famous Wild West classics. Since the modification of one’s own vehicles also plays a major role this time, the wacky machines should provide an exciting contrast to the surroundings.

Similar is the alternation between the depicted metropolis complete with skyscrapers, the rural farms as well as something that looks like an old western town. We might find out more at the planned showcase on (Twitch) and (Youtube), which will take place on 20 April 2022 at 9 pm and will focus on the many customisation options in the game ().

A brand new trailer and possibly the now leaked screenshots will be shown there. That the images are indeed of Saints Row can be seen from the striking buildings that were already visible in the previous gameplay trailer:

The fans are happy

Many players were still critical of the presentation of the game at Gamescom 2021,However, this also had to do with the fact that the majority of the video material at that time consisted of pre-rendered CGI scenes.

Meanwhile, most viewers are enthusiastic about the leaked landscapes and compare them to Red Dead Redemption 2 or the hit series Breaking Bad. Reddit user hdcase1 voices what many fans are probably also wondering:

Wow, this looks great. Hopefully there’s lots of cool stuff out there to do“.

The question therefore is: Are there as many employment opportunities in the obviously expansive landscapes as there are in the genre leader Grand Theft Auto 5? These and other questions should soon be answered, because after the release was postponed by half a year last November, the series reboot is scheduled for release on the now not-so-distant 23 August 2022.

What do you think about the series reboot? Are you looking forward to a breath of fresh air and fresh Saints or do you fear an alienation with the fan base without the regular crew? Feel free to let us know in the comments?
