The Silent Hill 2 Remake is already the talk of the town before its release. This is mainly due to the positive reviews in the trade press. However, some hardcore horror fans don’t like this positive media response. They manipulated the game’s Wikipedia page and entered false information about the ratings, which ultimately led to the page being temporarily blocked.

Over the weekend, the Wikipedia page for Silent Hill 2 Remake was the focus of orchestrated manipulation. Trolls drastically changed the rating entries on the page to make the game look bad. They falsely claimed that the remake had received a disastrous score of 27/100 for the PS5 version and 10/100 for the PC version on Metacritic. The ratings of renowned gaming publications such as IGN and GameSpot were also heavily distorted.

Wikipedia responded to this manipulation by temporarily suspending the Silent Hill 2 Remake article. This ensured that only registered users could make changes to prevent further falsifications. The actual Metacritic rating of

Not a serious attempt at trolling

A Reddit usershared a screenshot of the manipulated Wikipedia page, commenting, “Trolls can’t handle the success of Silent Hill 2 Remakeso they vandalized the Wikipedia ratings.” These manipulative tactics appear to stem from resentment over certain changes to the game, such as adjustments to character designs that some felt were “too woke.”

Other users expressed their contempt for the trolls. Comments such as “Pathetic” or “Sad that people waste so much time and energy on something like this” reflect the frustration of many. Many also saw the manipulations as a futile attempt to sabotage the remake’s image, since Wikipedia is not a significant source of information for game reviews for most gamers. thatsmeece emphasized: “I don’t think anyone seriously consults Wikipedia before buying a game. People read real reviews and watch gameplay videos.” What are the consequences of trolling? Overall, the community is divided on whether these troll attacks can really cause serious damage. While some take the whole thing humorously, others see it as a sad example of the negativity that characterizes parts of the fan base.

Furthermore, the question arises as to what extent the Silent Hill 2 remake will suffer from review bombing when it is released tomorrow, October 8. The horror title will be available for PC and PlayStation 5.
