Sony seems to have a plan to combat the PlayStation 5 shortage. The predecessor is expected to bail out the next-gen console.
The PlayStation 5 has been on the market for over a year. Yet it continues to be a real struggle to get your hands on one of these coveted consoles. Nevertheless, developer Sony seems to have an idiosyncratic solution for this, in which the PlayStation 4 plays a central role.
However, Sony seems to have decided against this due to the non-existent supply of PlayStation 5 consoles. According to (Bloomberg), Sony wants to continue producing the PlayStation 4 beyond 2022. The components for the last-gen console are available and cheaper for both Sony and gamers:inside.
The production of PlayStation 4 consoles seems to be profitable for Sony. After all, upcoming games will not only appear for the PlayStation 5, but also still on the last-gen console. So far, there are only a handful of exclusive titles for the PS5, including Demon Souls and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Nevertheless, gamers who now get a PS4 as a compromise would have to hope that Sony will continue to release future games for both generations.
