Yesterday evening, Ubisoft presented us with a massive deep dive into Skull & Bones. The publisher provided us with a cinematic trailer, a gameplay trailer and a release date! At the same time, we were bombarded with a ton of info that leaves us with one question: What won’t we actually be able to do?

Let’s get to the most important info first. Skull & Bones will be released on 8 November 2022 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Stadia, Luna and PC. The open-world adventure offers you both single-player and multiplayer gameplay. You can go on a raid against other players on a PvP server with your friends. Already now, the developers assure that they have planned a years-long post-launch support with lots of free content for the community support. In addition to the socialisation and exploration aspects, there is also a focus on another feature: crafting. From more ships to weapons and equipment to armour, you can craft a lot of items. These in turn give you a lot of room for personalisation.

The setting & Gameplay of Skull & Bones

Skull & Bones lets you start with almost nothing. At the beginning of the game you are a poor shipwrecked man somewhere in the Indian Ocean who builds a small sailing ship out of flotsam. Equipped with a spear, you have to hold your own against animal and human enemies.

At the same time, look for loot, blueprints and crew members to hire. When you arrive at an outpost, you can upgrade your ship, stock up on supplies and look for ways to get money. For example, you can take orders from NPCs, which will also increase your Infamy. This will give you access to more resources and bring you to the attention of other factions.

This attention can quickly get you involved in naval battles. By using cannons, bombs, ballistae and numerous other weapons, you can fight back against your enemies. If you emerge from a battle less glorious, you will respawn at the nearest outpost or hideout. Some of the loot will be with you, but some may still be at sea. You should salvage this before other players get hold of your belongings.

There can also be conflicts within your own crew. If you don’t keep the morale of your crew high, the members can start a mutiny and relieve you of your duties as captain. Thus, Skull & Bones offers a hard-hitting pirate adventure that is definitely not for harmless landlubbers.

Whoever wants to explore foreign waters can sail from the tip of Africa to the Indian Ocean. There await various hideouts as well as outposts, foreign factions and the mysterious places pointed to on your deciphered treasure map. With all these ways to get rich, you can equip your ship, your crew and yourself with a lot of upgrades that will eventually make you the most feared pirate of your time.

You can pre-order

Skull & Bones now on the (official website). There you will also find more information about the gameplay. We are looking forward to all the freedom that Ubisoft offers us in the upcoming title. It really seems as if nothing is possible in this pirate adventure game.
