The developers behind the Oblivion remake have shared their progress in a video and revealed plans for the next two years until release.

Even eleven years after the release of Skyrim, the modding community surrounding the fifth Elder Scrolls adventure is still alive and kicking. One of the most impressive mod projects might be the Oblivion remake Skyblivion, which brings the fourth Elder Scrolls part to life in the Skyrim engine.

After the developers announced a release in 2025 in the spring, the Skyblivion team has now shared details on the current development status of the mega role-playing game project in an update.

What is the current status of Skyblivion?

  • Game World: Of the nine regions of Cyrodiil, six are completely finished. Together with the already created lands from the still unfinished game regions, 82.7 percent of the game world is currently complete.
  • More locations: In addition to the normal game world of Cyrodiil, Oblivion also contains 40 other unique locations, such as the Oblivion Plains. Of these, eleven environments have already been completed.
  • NPC Movement: Once the regions are complete, the so-called Nav Meshing follows, i.e. the creation of a navigation network in which AI enemies and animals can move. A third of this network is already finished. NPCs and quests are already fully functional there.
  • Buildings: One construction site is the interior areas, i.e. castles, houses, caves and shops. Of a total of 600 indoor areas, only 260 are currently finished.
  • Quests: Of the 199 quests from Oblivion, 97 are already completely playable.
  • Soundtrack: All tracks from the original Oblivion soundtrack by Jeremy Soule remain in Skyblivion. In addition, 17 new tracks are added for the individual regions and dungeons.
  • Objects: The creation of new 3D objects is also a time-consuming factor in the development of Skyblivion. For legal reasons, modders have to create all assets themselves. So far, 1,893 of 2,508 objects have been completed.

The modders have been working on Skyblivion since 2012 and slowly but surely the project is entering the home stretch. The developers are determined to meet the 2025 release date. At the moment, the team is therefore concentrating entirely on the content of the main game. The DLCs from Oblivion are not included in Skyblivion. Only after the release do they want to turn to Shivering Isles
