Bethesda has announced a new version of Skyrim at Quakecon 2021, which comes with hundreds of new contents. There will also be a free next-gen upgrade for SE owners.
An announcement made during Quakecon at Home 2021 caused many Dragonbloods to let out a squeal of delight. For Skyrim is getting a new port. Yes, that’s right, this Skyrim, which has already found its way onto refrigerators as a “Very Special Edition”.
But there are supposed to be two or three of you out there who have never passed through the gates of White Run or wandered for hours through the Black Lands. For those, and of course also for adventurers who simply want to give a dragon a severe headache again, the “Skyrim Anniversary Edition” will soon be available.

When will the Anniversary Edition be released?
The new edition will be released, how could it be otherwise, on November 11, 2021 for PC, PS5/PS4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One.
How much the Anniversary Edition will cost is currently unknown.
What is included in the package?
If you’re planning to spend a few months on a desert island, the Anniversary Edition could be just what you’re looking for. Because with this you get the Skyrim Special Edition, so the main game plus the three official DLCs Hearthfire, Dawnguard and Dragonborn, but that’s not all:
It comes with over 500 DLCs from the Creation Club. These bring you fresh quests, dungeons, bosses, weapons and spells, mostly created by community members, but also by Bethesda itself.
Petri Heil: Fishing will be another new feature – owners of the Skyrim Special Edition will also get this new feature. Bethesda’s community manager Ashley Cheng announced that it’s never too late for this meditative pastime (via VGC):
“You know, 10 years is a long time, but I think it’s worth it. We’re going to put a fishing mechanic in the game. […] You’re roaming the world, exploring the wilderness, but you don’t have to jump in the water and click around blindly anymore. You can grab a fishing rod and do some fishing quests. It’s a cool new addition to the game, it’ll be free for everyone and it’ll help the immersion.”
The already fantastic immersion is one of the main reasons why Skyrim made it to an excellent second place in our list of the best open-world games:
What about the NextGen upgrade?
Those who were hoping for footage or even a trailer for the also announced NextGen upgrade will unfortunately be disappointed. So far, there is only confirmation that the current consoles will also be able to conjure up Skyrim on the screen.
Therefore, it is not yet clear which graphical innovations owners of a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S can look forward to. But you should not expect to be presented with a complete makeover. Skyrim will still be Skyrim. Yet the series is in desperate need of a new graphics engine:
What else is there for SE owners?
In addition to fishing and the NextGen upgrade, all Dovahkiins who own the Special Edition will get two more content upgrades for free:
Survival Mode: This is probably the Creation Club content we reported on a few years ago. This will make your adventure in Himmelsrand a whole lot more challenging. In addition to dragons, trolls and imperials, you will now also have to deal with hunger, thirst and cold. Fast travel is also no longer available. Ideal for veterans who want to take on new challenges.
Saints and Seducers: This is a quest series themed around the Shivering Isles, which series fans already know from the add-on for TES IV: Oblivion. However, the fresh adventure also brings along new enemies, new spells, more alchemy ingredients, a dungeon and even pets. There are also some new armour and weapon sets for crafting.
What’s actually going on with The Elder Scrolls 6?
Well, that’s what we’re all wondering. Because since the announcement of Elder Scrolls 6 at E3 2018, there has unfortunately been little new information. Currently, according to Bethesda’s PR and Marketing Vice President Pete Hines, the sci-fi role-playing game Starfield is at the top of the list. Starfield will be released on 11 November 2022, so you should definitely not get your hopes up until then.
