Skyrim: New mod makes the most boring NPCs more lively

In Skyrim, the bandits talk a lot, although they actually have little to say. A mod now finally gives the bandits more depth with almost 500 new dialogues.

The bandits of Skyrim are a funny bunch. Even if you’ve just slain a dragon with your bare hands in Daedra armour and sucked its soul, there’s usually a bandit not far away who thinks: Yep, I’ll rip him off. Despite the meagre prospect of loot, you can’t blame the bandits for their zeal.

But even after countless re-releases, the rather talkative criminals of Himmelsrand still don’t have too much to say. Repetitive quotes such as You chose a bad time to get lost or You should never have come here have thus burned themselves into the heads of numerous Skyrim adventurers.

A new mod is set to give Skyrim’s bandits over 500 new lines of dialogue, making (punch) exchanges with the predatory folk a little more complex. And they sound surprisingly authentic in a YouTube video! Be warned, however, that to enjoy the mod in its entirety, you will need to be fluent in English.

What Skyrim(-bandits) have to say now

What exactly does the mod deliver? The Bandit Lines Expansion Mod is available for free download for both Skyrim Special Edition and Skyrim Legendary Edition. The bandits are given over 500 new dialogues, which should finally make them a little more believable and less boring.

Once you have installed the mod, the new lines of dialogue will be especially noticeable during battles: Bandits not only comment on your equipment, your level or your appearance – which makes the confrontations a bit more personal – but also on certain events. For example, the bandits are no longer indifferent when you flatten their friends or use spells and dragon calls.

But even apart from the fights, you can now listen to the bandits’ more authentic dialogues. For example, they ponder their noble craft, how stupid everything is in Himmelsrand and whether it is really worth attacking the dangerous-looking orc with a two-handed sword. (Which they still do in the end, because additional dialogue doesn’t make the bandits any more intelligent).

You can find out how it sounds in the end in the following YouTube video. You might not even notice the difference, because no new conversations were recorded for the mod, but simply existing ones were thrown together again:

Where to find the mod? The project of the user JaySpera is available for free download on NexusMods. You should also find a version for the newest variants of Skyrim – such as the (Special) or (Legendary Edition).
