A new mod makes the forests in Skyrim more varied and detailed. It looks great – and saves your performance in the process.
When modders and players present their Skyrim graphics that have been turned up to the max, there is usually a big catch: to enjoy the fancy visuals, you then either need a 3,000-euro PC or you experience Sky’s Edge as a slide show and melt down your graphics card. An example:
A new mod now almost single-handedly makes Skyrim’s forests many times more beautiful and detailed, but probably without a catch. For players here are amazed to find that there is little or no effect on performance.
This is what the new forests look like
Of course I can tell you a lot about the level of detail, textures and density of grasses here, but pictures are still worth a thousand words. Luckily, the modder with the euphonious name fxckthisworld has uploaded an impressive video for demonstration purposes:
The author states on Nexusmods that he simply couldn’t find a modification that would make Skyrim’s forests, which seemed boring to him, what he wanted them to be. Without further ado, he gave the forests of the ageing role-playing game a general overhaul.
The mod replaces most of the existing trees with his own models and also fills the forests with new tree species. In addition, more details are added and the general density of the vegetation is increased, according to the author even by a factor of five.
You could already see the result above: We can wander through dense, atmospheric forests that still look like Skyrim, but in parts almost seem like a remake of the Open World. So far, the modder has only been able to rework the regions around Falcon’s Ring, River Forest and Rifton, but in the future, the winter areas and Morthal are also to shine in new splendour.
While for most modders their projects are just a hobby, the YouTuber from Digital Dreams has made pimping old games his profession. In the interview he talks about his work:
Is this a new role-playing game with noble graphics? No, this is Skyrim with 1,200 mods!
Skyrim’s forests are barely recognisable thanks to graphics mods
Beautiful visuals without FPS drops
But the most surprising thing about the spruced up forests is that installing the mod seems to have little effect on performance. At least, that’s what many players report on Nexusmods, who are consistently enthusiastic about the look and technology of the new forests.
And the author also explains on the website that his tree models were designed to be relatively easy on the hardware. However, when we asked him about it, he pointed out that the mod can definitely have an effect on the performance of the game, especially on older systems. However, he had made an effort to implement the mod in a good technical way in order to keep the performance losses low.
If you want to marvel at the forests with your own dragon blood, you can download the mod at (Nexusmods.com). However, please note the installation instructions and the necessary requirements. For example, you must install the unofficial patch for Skyrim in order to use the mod.
