According to a rumor, the console should reach up to 4 TFLOPs on the TV

Leakers have uncovered new alleged information about the Nintendo Switch 2 to light. According to Tweak Town Moore’s Law Is Dead, the console should have much more power in docked mode than previously assumed.

The source speaks of up to 4 TFLOPs For comparison: The first switch achieves 0.4 TFLOPs.

Although the TFLOPs can only really be meaningfully compared within the same architecture or chip generation, the figures give an indication of how big the leap in performance could be.

The Switch 2 is said to be clocked “insanely low” in handheld mode.

Why this is important: Even if it’s only rumors so far, the 4 TFLOPs are still an announcement.

What is considered certain so far:

  • The Switch is said to have a new Tegra SoC.
  • The graphics processor is said to be largely based on NVIDIA’s Ampere GPU.
  • However, the chip is said to have some features of the current Ada Lovelace generation.

A combination of two architectures sounds a bit strange. Without more detailed information, it is therefore impossible to say how plausible this is

The Switch 2 will allegedly be heavily downclocked in handheld mode. In his Podcast Moore’s Law Is Dead speaks of “significantly less than 800Mhz”, referring to his unnamed sources.

In docked mode, ray tracing could also be possible, at least that’s what Tweak Town believes. They cite NVIDIA DLSS as proof of this

In our opinion, the implementation of Nvidia’s scaling technology does not prove that the Switch 2 is also capable of ray tracing – whether docked or not.

Nintendo Switch 2 has probably already been shown to developers – blind

As the Spanish site Vandal reports, unknown third-party developers had an appointment with Nintendo regarding the Switch 2.

The meeting was probably very strange, because the developers present were allowed to touch, but not see, the successor to the Switch.

The console was in a black box.

The still unconfirmed details from the appointment:

  • The Switch 2 is bigger than the Switch OLED; but not as big as the Steam Deck.
  • The Switch 2 probably has magnetic Joy-Cons.

Please note: Nintendo continues to keep a low profile regarding the console, which is why the rumors should be taken with a grain of salt.

What do you think of the rumors about Nintendo’s new console? Do you think there is any truth to them? Feel free to post your thoughts and opinions in the comments.
