The youngest offspring of the sniper shooter family wears glasses. Sniper Elite VR doesn’t offer everything we’ve come to expect from the series, however.
A more beautiful constellation could not have been imagined in advance: The best sniper game gets an implementation for the platform that lets us slip into the skin of a sniper deeper than any other technology. From a studio that knows how to make shooters.
But Sniper Elite VR has done far too little with this promising starting point. In the test, it becomes apparent that the virtual reality game has so much untapped potential, one would like to bite oneself in the butt on behalf of the developers. What a missed opportunity!
Sniper Elite VR: All-round strike on all platforms
Sniper Elite VR is not a hackneyed VR port of an existing series, but an in-house development specifically for virtual reality. While Rebellion itself is working on Sniper Elite 5, which is still expected this year, the teams Just Add Water and Coatsink were allowed to take care of the VR offshoot. Those who don’t have VR glasses will have to be patient until the next part of the series – but all current VR hardware from PC-VR (Valve Index, Vive Pro 2, Oculus Rift (S), for example), Sony’s Playstation VR and the stand-alone VR solution Oculus Quest (2) are already supported.
