Small but mighty – and it could come at a (big) price
Another Sony smartphone is supposed to be launched this year, which at first glance at least seems to be aimed at fans of small cell phones. However, the price is likely to put a spanner in the works
Why this is important:For years now, the trend has been towards ever larger smartphones.
Mobile phones with small displays, on the other hand, are becoming increasingly rare; only the Pixel A series from Google still passes as a comparatively small Android smartphone – another Sony phone would stimulate the niche market. Apple, on the other hand, only has the iPhone SE 3.
In detail:The leaker “InsiderSony” has published a data sheet on X/Twitter that shows the supposed specifications of the Sony Xperia Pro C.
- According to this, the next model of the Pro generation will have a 6-inch display with an OLED panel.
- In addition to 2K resolution, the screen should have a refresh rate of 120 hertz, which is now standard in the upper Android class.
- This would make the Sony Xperia Pro C one of the most compact smartphones on the market today.
Other leaked specifications include a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 as CPU as well as 12 GB and 256 GB internal capacity as base configuration

More details on the camera:Similar to the recently launched Xperia 1 VI, the Pro version also aims to score points with an excellent camera setup.
- This is to be achieved with a 50-megapixel main camera on a 1-inch type sensor. The aperture is f/1.8 and an optical image stabilizer (OiS) is also on board, as well as support for 12-bit RAW and 14-bit DCG RAW.
- This is flanked by two lenses, each with a resolution of 12 megapixels; there are differences in the autofocus and the possible frame rate of 4K video recordings (60 and 120 FPS).
Who is the Xperia Pro aimed at? Sony describes its predecessor as an “absolute must-have for professionals”, which the manufacturer also uses to justify the high sales price.
- The Pro series is aimed at camera enthusiasts who require functions similar to Sony’s system cameras in a smartphone.
Possible release and price:As the Xperia 1 VI has only just been launched, a short-term release of the Pro model is considered unlikely.
- After all, according to the leaker, Sony is set to release the Xperia Pro C this year, with the fourth quarter of 2024 mentioned as a possible date.
- As mentioned, however, the price will be steep. At the market launch of the predecessor in the form of the Xperia Pro-I, the manufacturer set an RRP of 1,800 euros.
- The successor price is also likely to be based on this figure.
