A fan of Blizzard’s legendary strategy series has posted a short film on Youtube celebrating the old days: battles between Zerg, Terrans and Protoss.

It’s a journey to another time, when Blizzard, apart from WoW and Diablo, additionally stood for Starcraft. The strategy series has fallen into disuse and that is unlikely to change anytime soon. But one fan is defying the odds and holding the dusty flag of the RTS series high.

In three months of work, (Youtube user Nakma) has produced an impressive short film of just over three minutes in length. This shows an elaborately staged battle between Terrans and Protoss.

What does the short film show?

It’s the classic but always good bingo of a space battle: energy beams slice through a battle cruiser, agile space fighters dart around raking each other, missiles explode and shields fizzle. The action is accompanied by crisp sound and bombastic music. But it’s best to see, hear and experience the battle for yourself:

(On Nakma’s channel) for those interested, there are several more, mostly shorter snippets of scene sequences around well-known players and units from Blizzard’s universe.

Maybe someone in a crucial position at Blizzard will see the fan video and get a little nostalgic themselves, write an email or call someone. And who knows? Maybe we’ll get a Starcraft 3 or an addon for the second part a few years later.

What do you think of the Starcraft 2 fan film? Do you like it? And would you like to play a Starcraft 3 or a completely different spin-off from the universe of the Zerg, Protoss and Terrans? Do you find the idea of another addon based on the old technology nonsensical or would you jump at the chance? Tell us in the comments!
