Story: What is Squid Game 2 about?
Number 456 returns: Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) has made it his mission in season 2 to end the deadly games once and for all. To put his plan into action, he is taking part in them again. In doing so, he tries to persuade other candidates to join him and put an end to the tyranny together.
Thus, Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) – the winner of the Squid Game in season 1 – did not travel to America to see his daughter, as the frontman recommended, but stayed in South Korea.
Other familiar faces from season 1: Also back is police officer Hwang Jun-Ho (Wi Ha-Jun), who survived the first season – even though he became quite dangerous to the game players. That’s because he was investigating the mysterious Squid Game and trying to educate the public about the truth. In season 2, his brother Hwang In-Ho also returns as the frontman. We’ll find out what awaits the two of them in the new season starting December 26, 2024.
Trailer: What’s there to see so far about Squid Game 2?
An official trailer brings number 456 back into play and the video clearly shows: It’s going to be pretty chaotic and brutal! Just take a look for yourself:
Sequels and Spin-Offs: What’s Next After Season 2?
Season 3: A third season has already been confirmed and is scheduled for release in 2025. The specific release date is not yet known, but we can probably expect a release around mid/end of 2025 The series about Gi-hun is expected to come to an end with the third season.
An animated film: As early as 2022, rumors of a planned animated film were heard. However, so far there has been no concrete information about the project. It is also not known whether it will be a continuation or a completely new idea in the form of a spin-off. So whether the work will ever see the light of day remains questionable.
New series by David Fincher (The Social Network, Seven): The director is said to be already working on a new show in 2025, which also takes place in the universe of the South Korean original. This will probably be a spin-off series rather than a remake or a reboot.
The real
Squid Game: On November 22, 2023 a reality show based on the series appeared on Netflix. In Squid Game: The Challenge, 456 candidates compete against each other. The winner gets $4.56 million at the end. Of course, the games are nowhere near as deadly as in the original. You can watch a first teaser here:
