GSC Game World is holding an NFT auction. The final owners are to be integrated into Stalker 2 as lifelike characters aka “Metahumans. “

Surprising news: The longed-for sequel Stalker 2 will integrate the much-criticised Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). For this, developer GSC Game World is cooperating with the NFT platform DMarket. First, the NFTs will be auctioned off, then they will be available for free trade until a deadline, after which the last owners will be realised as characters in the game.

In this way, Stalker 2 is also treading a path already taken by Ubisoft with NFTs in Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. The French publisher is entering the NFT business in a big way with Quartz.

How NFTs work in Stalker 2

In a report by (TheVerge) a lot of info came to light about what NFTs mean in Stalker 2. A graphic shared on Twitter by industry insider Nibellion shows you an overview:

In the first instance, an auction for three NFTs is to take place in January 2022. Here, interested parties can bid money to buy one of the three NFTs at auction. Afterwards, the owners can resell the token. Whoever owns the NFT on a predetermined date will be realised as a metahuman in Stalker 2.

For this purpose, the three persons are to be transported to the developer’s studio and scanned in order to be integrated into the game in a lifelike manner afterwards. Despite the same name and the Unreal Engine 5, the MetaHuman Creator from Epic Games will not be used.

GSC Game World CEO Evgeniy Grygorovych explained when asked by TheVerge:

The idea of the associated NFT is to give the right to recreate the identity of its owner in the game through one of the NPCs. The person has to come to our studio for a detailed scanning process, and after that we have everything to make that person appear in the game world as one of the characters.

Apparently GSC Game World is planning even more NFTs in Stalker 2, but gave no further details when asked by TheVerge.

NFTs are viewed with concern by many gamers, as critics question their actual usefulness for games. Recently, major scams have also appeared in the headlines – and the potential environmental damage has also met with criticism. Nevertheless, tokens are a very prominent trending topic: huge sums of money move around when trading NFTs in some cases.
