The Star Wars universe has grown by several planets and races over the decades. Now, for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, an already familiar race is being taken out of mothballs again and established as the enemy of Cal.
In Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, protagonist Cal Kestis will meet new friends and enemies. One new enemy will be Rayvis, a Gen”dai. Long-time Star Wars fans may already be familiar with this race from the 2003 Clone Wars series.
If you”re not familiar with the warrior race, we”ll now fill you in on them. The Gen”dai”s home planet was destroyed many hundreds of years ago, so they now roam the systems as intergalactic nomads. Most of them have taken up the profession of bounty hunters. The Gen”dai can live for several thousand years, due in no small part to the regenerative tentacles that make up their bodies. To keep their bodies in a stable form, they wear armour.
Combined with their massive appearance and their fighting skills, the Gen”dai are extraordinarily strong opponents who do not shy away from a laser sword. (So look forward to a boss fight against Rayvis).
Warriors recognise each other
As the developers point out in (interview with IGN) the Gen”dai follow their own moral code. Honouring this is an integral part of their culture, which naturally influences this race”s view of life.
Rayvis is thus not just a dull NPC, he is the result of a rich – and in the view of the race – honourable culture. His advanced age has seen numerous empires rise and fall, making him an experienced warrior. This is a unifying element between Cal Kestis and Rayvis. Both are familiar with the overthrow of a long ruling order and have been shaped by this fate. Both recognise themselves as good warriors and possess a certain amount of respect for each other.
Through this and the interview with actor Cameron Monaghan, it is clear that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor delves deeply into the psyche of the actors. We can”t wait to dive into this spectacular adventure ourselves on 28 April.
