Respawn’s new shooter project in the Star Wars universe is said to take inspiration from fan favourites Dark Forces and Jedi Knight.

You can hardly complain about too few upcoming Star Wars games at the moment: Not only will Jedi Survivor be released in April of this year, but Respawn is also working on a strategy game and a shooter. There is now new information about the latter, which might especially excite old Star Wars fans.

The development studio is currently looking for reinforcements and reveals a little more about the project in the job advertisements:

In collaboration with Lucasfilm, the Star Wars team is developing a new AAA first-person shooter in the Star Wars galaxy. Inspired by classics such as Dark Forces and Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2, our story-driven single-player game is being developed from the ground up using the power of Unreal Engine 5.

So there are two exciting pieces of information in there:

  1. The nameless game is made with Epic’s impressive engine, which has already caused many an open mouth.
  2. It will take its cue from fan favourites Dark Forces and Jedi Knight !

What were those games again?

For those who don’t know right now, why this is outstanding news for some gamers: The two Doom-like titles enjoy an enormous fan base despite their considerable age!

Now the games have a few years under their stormtrooper belts, but fans still don’t tire of the shooters. Only in December the fan-made 4K remaster of Dark Forces was released. You can see the trailer here:

So the fact that Respawn’s new game takes inspiration from these fan favourites is sure to bring back nostalgic memories for some.

Would you look forward to a Star Wars shooter that goes back to the roots in some aspects or do you not give a damn about the old hams? And do you now also suddenly have an appetite for ham and beans? Write it down in the comments (especially the appetite question, that’s especially important)!
