After 20 years, two popular Star Wars shooters return with a revamped look – but at a mighty price

The wave of remasters and re-releases doesn’t stop at old Star Wars games: a remaster of the single-player shooter Dark Forces will be released next week and just a few days later, the first two online shooters in the Star Wars: Battlefront series from the early 2000s will also return.

This is what awaits you in the Star Wars: Battlefront Collection

What kind of games are these? Whether you’re part of the Empire, the Rebellion, the Republic or the Separatist Alliance – you can compete on huge battlefields on the ground, in the air and in space. A large selection of classes, vehicles and iconic heroes and villains from different eras of the Star Wars saga are available

What’s new Officially, the package is called Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection (Here’s the game on Steam). Included are the two acclaimed titles Star Wars: Battlefront (2004) and Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2005), which now shine in new splendor and find their way onto modern gaming platforms (PS5, Xbox Series, Switch and Steam).

The game package, which will be released on March 14, 2024  promises not only a visual refresh of the popular classics, but also a range of cool features:

  • One of the highlights is the online support for up to 64 players, with which you can now also play Battlefront 1 on an unprecedented scale. At the time, it only had support for up to 32 players, while part 2 has always supported 64 players.
  • The Classic Collection also includes all previously released bonus content, including popular maps such as Jabba’s Palace and the cloud city of Bespin, as well as additional heroes such as Asajj Ventress and Kit Fisto.
  • In addition to extensive multiplayer options, you can also expect a single-player campaignthat takes you through iconic battles from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace to Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
  • Another highlight is the Galactic Conquest Mode, in which strategic skill is required to conquer the galaxy with your own strategy.
  • In addition, the Hero Assault Mode is being expanded: It is now playable on all ground maps – including Death Star, Kashyyyk, Kamino and Naboo – and allows you to slip into the role of your favorite heroes and villains and compete against each other in spectacular duels.

One downside: The new collection does not appear to be compatible with the originals. If you already have these in your Steam library, you will only receive an additional loyalty discount of 10 percent. Together with the pre-order discount, you’ll still have to pay 27 euros – a hefty price for two twenty-year-old games
