The new Rey movie continues the story of Star Wars and Daisy Ridley as Rey, but that doesn’t automatically make it Episode 10
The Skywalker saga ended with Star Wars: Episode 9, but the story will continue once again: Daisy Ridley returns as Rey for a new feature film, which will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel).
It is currently not known when the Rey film will be released in cinemas, as The Mandalorian & Grogu is first due in 2026. What is certain, however, is that the return of Daisy Ridley definitely won’t be Episode 10
No, the Rey movie will not be Star Wars: Episode 10
There were rumors and speculation that the Rey movie might be titled something like Episode 10: A New Beginning
. But Jordan Maison explicitly contradicts this on X (formerly) Twitter. Maison works for the official Star Wars site starwars.com and can categorically rule out
that the film will even be called Episode 10 in any way.
Can confirm, with info directly from Lucasfilm that reports of the Rey-centric StarWars movie being titled ‘Episode X: A New Beginning’ is “categorically incorrect.”

This is only partially surprising, however, as Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy hinted that Rey’s solo adventure is supposed to be a kind ofnew beginning for Star Wars
. This would probably make it counterproductive to market the film as a continuation of a nine-part series – especially since Episode 9 is being referred to as the end of the Skywalker saga anyway.
Maison can confirm that Daisy Ridley’s (quite lucrative) return to the Star Wars universe is currently being developed under the working title New Jedi Order
and that the final title will be
What the final name will be on the movie poster remains to be seen.
According to initial plot details Rey is actually supposed to create a new Jedi Order after the events of Episode 9. But that’s the basis of the plot for now and what happens next remains to be seen
What else is currently happening in Star Wars
2026 The Mandalorian & Grogu, directed by Jon Favreau, will be released soon, while James Mangold and Dave Filoni are also working on their own Star Wars films. Taika Waititi and Shawn Levy s planned projects are likely to be a little longer in coming.
