Update 1.6 will be released in just a few weeks and will bring lots of new content to the game. We’ll tell you which ones
If you’ve been wanting to get out into the countryside for a while, you’ll soon have the ideal opportunity: Update 1.6 for Stardew Valley will be released on March 19, 2024.
The already packed indie hit will receive a whole host of additional content. But there is also some bad news: Update 1.6 will only be released for PC for the time being. According to developer Eric Barone a. k. a. Concerned Ape, consoles and mobile devices will follow as soon as possible
It’s the 8th anniversary of Stardew Valley. Thank you for all the support over the years! Today I am announcing the PC Release date for the 1.6 update: –March 19th–. Console & Mobile will follow as soon as possible. pic.twitter.com/dMEFydjSqC

The new contents of Update 1.6 at a glance
First of all: Official patch notes for Update 1.6 are not yet available. It is therefore quite possible that we will be surprised with further, previously unknown content for the release on March 19
The following new features have been confirmed so far:
- New farm type
- Some fresh secrets in the game world
- A new big festival and two new mini festivals
- New endgame content that makes use of the different skills
- A variety of new items and crafting recipes
- Joja alternatives for some endgame quests
- The best new feature of all: You can now put hats on dogs and cats!
- Over 100 new dialog lines
- Winter outfits for the villagers
- New rewards for completed mission board quests
- Support for 8-player multiplayer (PC only)
- More minor additions and adjustments
Concerned Ape celebrates milestone – and the competition celebrates too
Eric Barone is delighted that Stardew Valley continues to be so successful after eight years. In a further tweet as part of the release announcement of Update 1.6, he writes:
With a new update on the horizon, a worldwide concert tour, an official cookbook coming soon, and over 30 million copies sold, Stardew Valley is thriving more than ever. As always, I’m eternally grateful to the players (you!) for making it all possible
Even Whitney Spinks, Vice President of developer studio Re-Logic – the team behind the equally successful indie game Terraria – responded to this tweet. She is delighted with Concerned Ape and writes:
What a great milestone and what a great way to celebrate it. Congratulations on eight years, my friend, and thanks for a great game!
To my fellow Terrarians, the update is delayed. We’ll talk again in about six months.
What the developer is alluding to with the last paragraph: Terraria fans have also been waiting for the next major update for quite some time. Originally, version 1.4.5 was supposed to be released in 2023, but the official status is now only that it will be released in 2024.
If you’ve already played Stardew Valley so extensively that even update 1.6 can’t tempt you back to the countryside, we have an alternative for you: Coral Island. The farming simulator, which is inspired in many ways by Stardew Valley, left Early Access in November 2023 and has won many fans since then. Géraldine explains more about the game in the podcast linked above.
