The first major expansion for Starfield will be released in the fall. According to Bethesda boss Todd Howard, the add-on will once again be more focused than much of the role-playing game’s other content

The DLC Shattered Space forStarfield will be released in fall 2024. This will be the first major expansion for Bethesda’s role-playing game, which is still the subject of controversy in the community

Head developer Todd Howard now reveals more about Shattered Space in an interview with the YoutuberMrMattyPlaysand explains how Starfield will continue afterwards.

Shattered Space will be similar to Far Harbor

In an interview, MrMattyPlays and Todd Howard talk about many Bethesda topics such as the future of Fallout and Starfield. The video linked below deals exclusively with Starfield from minute 27 to 42

According to Todd Howard, the scope of Shattered Space compares toFar Harbor, the largest expansion for Fallout 4, which adds about 15 hours of additional gameplay to the game with its main and side quests.

Shattered Space is also set to play very differently to what we are used to from Starfield. According to Howard, most of the story takes place on a planet and the town there. For the expansion, Bethesda has built a more traditional contiguous landscape that we can explore and complete quests in.

This also touches on one of the biggest criticisms from players, namely exploration. Instead of hand-built areas, we explore procedurally generated planets in Starfield and discover randomly placed outposts.

Second expansion already planned

According to Howard, work on the DLC began in September 2023, just a short time after the release of Starfield. However, the release of Shattered Space is far from over.

The developer also says that Bethesda wants to continue working on Starfield for as long as possible and provide the role-playing game with further content. In this context, Howard announced that at least one more story expansion will be released for Starfield. New expansions will also be released on an annual basis.

Starfield’s latest update has recently caused some discussion. Although there was once again a lot of free new content, the controversial paid mods were also introduced. Howard also briefly addressed the criticism of many players in the interview. The community had been heard and was now thinking about what could be changed.
