Starfield, the highly anticipated and already highly acclaimed sci-fi RPG from Bethesda has only recently been released, and modding enthusiasts have wasted no time in creating numerous modifications for the game. Todd Howard has now officially announced mod support for Starfield and briefly talked about possible DLC content that players can look forward to in the future.
Developer-backed mod support is expected to be available as early as next year. This will likely include the introduction of Creation Kits, similar to those used for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim and Fallout 4 During an interview with Famitsu, Todd Howard, the director of Starfield, shared some exciting details. He revealed that mod support “will be available next year,” referring to the previously mentioned Creation Kits or their equivalents.
This is what official mod support for Stafield should look like
Although it is already possible to modify the space RPG without official tools, as evidenced by several (entries on NexusMods) including some that enable the use of Nvidia’s DLSS technology in Starfield an official creation kit is expected to greatly expand modders’ options.
Currently, most unofficial mods focus mainly on aesthetic changes, such as replacing models or textures. However, a creation kit would provide even more depth to hobby developers, allowing them to create entirely new quests, items, or even areas. The vast, seemingly empty planets in Starfield and the possibilities they offer to modders should be particularly eye-catching.
It’s no secret that Starfield is set to receive extensive DLC on the scale of expansions like Skyrim or Fallout 4. However, when such a one will be released remains unclear for now. Todd Howard tersely stated that it remains so, with no new information on when we can look forward to the release of fresh content.
