Steam shooter now supports 100 players per match, but Valve says directly: (Don’t use it!)

Valve has once again released a new update for Team Fortress 2. This time there are a few bug fixes – and support for up to 100 players in a match.

Team Fortress 2 just can’t be killed. Even more than 16 years after its original release, the shooter is still being played diligently by the community. Just a fortnight ago, the team shooter even reached a new record high in player numbers.
The reason for this enduring love is probably also the fact that developer Valve continues to provide the game with updates despite its advanced age. This week, another fresh patch came out of the pile.

Chaos at your own risk

Although a major fun factor of Team Fortress has always been its hustling and chaotic gameplay, the new update from 25 July should take the chaos to a new dimension.

The patch triples the maximum number of players! Instead of 32 players, you can now play with up to 100 players on the multiplayer maps. However, you do so at your own risk!

As Valve announced in the patch notes, 50v50 battles are now theoretically possible, but they are not recommended. Because a stable running of the game cannot be guaranteed in this mode.

This doesn’t mean that Team Fortress 2 will crash if you start a 100 player round. Instead, Chaos mode actually looks pretty damn fun, as the following video proves. The framerate might suffer though…

What else does the patch bring?

Besides the significantly larger battles, the update brings a lot of smaller bug fixes – yes, apparently there are still small bugs to be eliminated even in a 16-year-old game. Below we have listed some important fixes and features for you; you can read the full patch notes (on the Team Fortress website).

  • The robots in Man vs. Machine mode become immune to pushback through a check.
  • The maximum number of players has been increased to 100.
  • Resolved issues with the HUD in some game modes.
  • Miscellaneous fixes for the map Altitude
  • Miscellaneous fixes for the map Cascade
  • Miscellaneous Fixes for the Map Steel
  • Miscellaneous fixes for the map Phoenix
  • Multiple resolved issues on the maps Distillery, Tinyrock, Nucleus and Skirmish

What do you think of the new Team Fortress 2 update? Do you now feel like jumping into chaotic 50v50 battles or did you give up on TF2 years ago? Feel free to write us your opinion about the patch in the comments.
