Counter-Strike 2
(Genre: Tactical Shooter – Release: Sep 27, 2023 – Price: Free2Play (Prime: 14.29 Euro)
At the end of summer 2023, Valve gets serious and replaces CS:GO after eleven years by Counter-Strike 2. As expected, millions rush to it, the number of simultaneously active players amounts to constantly well over one million since release. It’s no surprise that the gigantic (and sometimes dangerous) skin market also generates sales. CS2 seems to cement Valve’s top position on the in-house sales platform.
While there are still plenty of problems, they are compounded by the fact that fans can’t simply switch back to CS:GO. That simply doesn’t exist now. However, Valve’s move is at least understandable, as it prevents a splintering of the player base like at the time of the release of Counter-Strike: Source.
Cyberpunk 2077 & Phantom Liberty
(Genre: Role-playing game – Release: December 10, 2020 / September 26, 2023 – Price: 59.99 / 29.99 Euro)
Cyberpunk 2077 has been moulting its way back to being a bestseller on Steam for weeks now. Thanks to the new expansion Phantom Liberty sales of the main game are also being fueled, generating even more sales than the expansion. So many are currently playing Cyberpunk 2077 for the first time.
This gives them a much better gaming experience a good two and a half years after release. Especially with the new update 2.0, Cyberpunk 2077 feels quite different by now. For example, the police now actually follow the players in the patrol car, fighting from the vehicle is also possible. In addition, there’s a complete overhaul of the skills.
Party Animals
(Genre: Physics party game – Release: Sep 20, 2023 – Price: 17.99 Euro)
Also a perennial favorite on Steam for weeks: Party Animals. The physics-based party game is rather light entertainment, but provides many laughs and currently also gathers over 10,000 viewers on Twitch. At release, the chaotic game attracted over 100,000 simultaneously active users. So it’s no wonder that it’s also represented in the Steam top sellers.
In the multiplayer games you control funny wiggling animals, pull clubs over your head and complete various creative levels. You play soccer, knock each other off platforms with lollipops or try to balance on ice floes for as long as possible.
What do you think of the release of Counter-Strike 2? Are you happy about the improvements compared to its predecessor or are you bothered by the lack of content and technical drawbacks? Do you plan to stay loyal to CS2 or even switch to the competition until Valve gets the problems under control? And what do you think of this format in general? Feel free to post your opinion in the comments!
