In a few weeks, Stellar Blade will introduce us to a post-apocalyptic version of Earth on the PlayStation 5. In an interview, Kim Hyung Tae, director of “Stellar Blade” and founder of development studio Shift Up, and technical director Lee Dong Gi shared details about the game’s inspiration and underlying themes.
On the one hand, the inspiration for Stellar Blade stems from a long-standing fascination with action games. On the other hand, the studio wanted to create a game that is characterized by its game mechanics and in-depth story. Various mangas served as sources of inspiration for the team. They also explored the question of how humanity is reflected through technology and its influence on society
The setting of Stellar Blade is a post-apocalyptic version of Earth. Here, the unknown creatures, the Naytiba, have wreaked havoc and devastated the planet. Humanity has retreated into space and now decides to fight for its home planet. The game takes players to the last remaining city of Xion and beyond into a vast, desolate desert landscape.
Special attention was paid to the design of a post-apocalyptic world that is both detailed and realistic. Shift UP drew on sci-fi elements from the 80’s and 90’s.
Stellar Blade on the PS5
An essential aspect of the game is the stylish action, which allows players of all skill levels to enjoy the dynamic battles. “Stellar Blade” emphasizes the need for players to closely observe their opponents’ movements and react accordingly in order to progress. Through a system of skill trees and equipment items such as Exospine and Gear, players can customize their fighting style.
The game also utilizes the immersive features of the PS5 console, such as adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. With various modes, including a performance mode for 1440p and 60fps, Stellar Blade can be enjoyed with a focus on performance, balanced graphics or in full 4K resolution.
Stellar Blade is scheduled for release on April 26 exclusively for the PlayStation 5.
