Developer Digital Extremes shows first gameplay of the Warframe successor Soulframe as a bouncer during a devstream – almost in secret.
A few minutes are enough to miss the first gameplay scenes of the Warframe successor Soulframe. Because without much of an announcement, let alone separate video footage as a spin-off, developer Digital Extremes has shown moving footage from the open-world fantasy MMORPG itself – and then even played it live.
First gameplay:
The secret gameplay premiere can be seen from about minute 50 of the developers” latest stream. Warning: the chapters in the video are, as of 24.03, incorrect. What is titled Soulframe is an upcoming boss fight from Warframe. The scenes for Soulframe can be found at about the GIFTS.

Soulframe vs. Warframe
In the game shown, a warrior armed with sword and magic roams a world that at first glance appears to be European medieval. Battles are far more ponderous than in Warframe. A comparison to the Souls title is quite obvious. It should also share one characteristic with Elden Ring : Exploration is to be a central aspect of the gameplay.
In the end, the question of whether Soulframe is a sequel or a spin-off can be discussed magnificently. The differences are already drastic: starting with the game”s pace, to the graphics style, to the arsenal of weapons.
Inspirations: For the game world, films by Studio Ghibli such as Princess Mononoke
and the fantasy classic The Neverending Story
served as a template, as the developers told us at the Reveal last year.

Release? Unfortunately, we cannot provide a release date at this point. At TennoCon 2023, which takes place on 26 August, there will be news and more gameplay to see about Soulframe. The developers have already announced this in the stream.
What will become of Warframe? You don”t have to worry about the hit from Digital Extremes. Warframe will continue to be provided with free updates and expansions. This was confirmed at the time of the Soulframe reveal.
