On Thursday afternoon, there was a gameplay deep dive for Super Mario Bros. Wonder. In just under 15 minutes, Nintendo showed us the colourful and diverse world of a new kingdom. In addition, IGN has published a (first gameplay preview

The Flower Kingdom is in danger! In Super Mario Bros. Wonder, the creep Bowser has seized a Wonder Flower and is turning the once peaceful region into a place of terror. Now it’s up to Mario and his friends to put an end to this reign of chaos.

The PCs in Super Mario Bros. Wonder

Throughout the course of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, you can choose between different Playable Characters (PCs) and explore the seven areas of the Flower Kingdom
On the one hand, there are of course the four well-known heroes MarioLuigiPrincess Peach and Princess Daisy to choose from. Those who like it a little cuter will get their money’s worth with the blue Toad, the yellow Toad or also Toadette

On the other hand, you can also take a less tricky gameplay path by opting for Yoshi in four colour variations or the Nabbit  These five figures are immune to enemy damage, but can still fall to their deaths from platforms.
This motley selection of characters should be great fun, especially in couch or online co-op

The new opponents

In addition to familiar villains such as the Koopas or Gumbas, you will of course also encounter a host of new enemies. For example, there are the bouncers that mimic your jumps.
From afar, the Melon Piranha Plants attack you by shooting melon seeds out of their mouths. On the other hand, the pike oaks will shoot at you as lightning-fast projectiles and ram their pointed beaks into the ground.

If you position yourself correctly in front of the mummy-like coils you can pull on their ropes and cause the tall constructs to collapse. However, you should be in a bit more of a hurry with the Sagaaahs , who open their mouths wide to eat you.
There are also the Fall Blocks that thunder down on you from great heights and even split jelly.
As Nintendo explains, these are just a selection of the new enemies that await you in Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

The new power-ups

To arm you against the new enemies, Nintendo has come up with some new power-ups for Super Mario Bros. Wonder. With the Elephant you can use your size to penetrate blocks. Or you can use your trunk to provide a charge of water to your surroundings.

Soap bubbles can be used to create floating bubbles that trap multiple enemies and turn them into coins. You can also use them as platforms to reach unreachable places.
Last but not least, there is the drill, which protects you from falling enemies on the one hand. You can also drill into the ground with this practical tool.

A new feature of the power-ups in Super Mario Bros. Wonder is that you can keep one to use later in the right situation.

The Wonder Flowers

With the Wonder Flowers, Nintendo implements a kind of “Wild Card” in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. If you touch such a plant, they can change the environments in various ways, the perspective is changed or your PCs suddenly get a new shape
No matter what happens, you will definitely experience a colourful miracle.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder will be released on October20 exclusively for the Switch family. You can now pre-order the upcoming platformer for 59.99 euros in the Nintendo eShop.
