Since April 24, 2025, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been available to play on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC—and has quickly captured the hearts of many gamers. Sandfall Interactive’s debut title features a unique blend of melancholic Belle Époque visuals, an emotional story, and a sophisticated, reactive combat system that reimagines traditional JRPG elements.
The story centers on Gustave and his sister Maelle, who embark on a desperate expedition. Every year, an entire age group disappears without a trace as soon as the mystical “Paintress” paints a new number on her monolith. The “Gommage” – as this dark ritual is called – threatens to wipe out humanity.

An indie adventure becomes a sensation

Despite stiff competition from the likes of Oblivion Remastered, Expedition 33sold over a million copies within 72 hours. Players particularly praise the poetic staging, the palpable tragedy of the characters, and the artistic graphic style. Hollywood veterans such as Andy Serkis and Charlie Cox lend their voices to the characters, reinforcing the cinematic feel.

Although there is no confirmation yet on the cast and director, pre-production is already in full swing.
