With the charm of a weather report, Ubisoft has announced a new The Division. Part 3 is in the hands of the boss of Star Wars: Outlaws.
By the way, The Division 3 is coming! What, you want to see a trailer, screenshots, maybe even gameplay? “Doesn’t exist!” says Ubisoft. No wonder: the development of the game is currently still in the children’s boots.
With a brash press release, the publisher has confirmed the existence of the new Tom Clancy’s The Division 3, developer is once again Massive Entertainment from Sweden.
The successor is to be put into experienced hands, just like the entire Loot Shooter series. For this, a veteran lent to Star Wars comes back.
Everything we know about The Division 3
So far, shockingly little is known about The Divsion 3. (The official press release) doesn’t mention a release date or setting. So we don’t know what city the title will be set in after The Division 1 took players to a New York City decimated by a plague and The Division 2 moved the setting to Washington D.C.
All that is known is that Julian Gerighty is returning to the helm: he was involved in the predecessors as associate creative director and creative director, but then moved internally at Massive to the team currently developing Star Wars: Outlaws . You remember that open-world game of smugglers, empire, and space combat that caused quite a stir when it was unveiled in June?
On the new position of industry veteran Gerighty (he began his career in 2004 in marketing for the original Far Cry), Ubisoft writes:
“Gerighty has been named executive producer for The Division brand and will take up the post once Star Wars Outlaws – a game he currently oversees as creative director – has shipped. “
The new executive producer himself hints that at least The Division’s gameplay shouldn’t change too much in Part 3 either, stressing with the series in mind, “It’s about refinement, it’s about pushing the bar of quality higher and higher. “
Currently, Star Wars: Outlaws is scheduled for release in 2024. It can be assumed that the development of Tom Clancy’s The Division 3 is currently still in an early concept phase. A release before 2025 thus seems out of the question.
